Anything above .40 is prohibited in handguns as far I know in India
This is in the Arms Act?? Is there a written document stating this?

To be honest there is no logic in this . Police just want to satisfy their ego nothing else . They donβt even know the arms act properly and are not bothered to know also .
One of arms dealers in pune told me this , he had sold .45 1911 to one customer the police DCP who was a lady , told that this will not be endorsed in my jurisdiction , rest of maharasthra state it is allowed but not in pune .
So the clear reason they want to satisfy their ego nothing else .

AFAIK this was pre-2016. After the new rules were published, only 9mm Luger remains PB. As I understand it, if a cartridge is being used by a Govt outfit, then it is declared PB and all other cartridges by definition become NPB. However, if that is the case, then 5.7X28 should be PB too since it is being used by the SPG here. Also, what about 38 S&W? Isn't it standard issue with some police outfits?

And they can get away with it because the common man is way too busy just surviving to challenge their assertions. A lot of people only need to start asking very pointed questions to bring them to their knees.

You are right . But arguing with them , the best answer you will get is appeal in high court if they accept we will accept .

I mean why are people giving so much importance to caliber.........the more important thing is getting a pistol or revolver which does not jam in the middle and using quality ammo.........we can spend the same amount of money for a walther or smith and wesson .32 and getting the licence and ammo is also reasonably easy.......
