hi ngrewal, if you haven't bought a scope yet, look for the one's with rangefinding reticles .if your 30 06 has a rail, mounts are easilly available in armouries ,most of them are made aliminium so you won't have problem when zeroing .saw the leupould, seems good.have fun.post a snap when you have fixed.

Good choice and ideal for the BSA, just do not compromise on the mounts/ bases and rings.

Have you considered the Bushnell Elites, particularly the old 3200s, 4200s.

what terrain will you be hunting? what game ? usual distances?
3-9 is a generic scope and you should be able to manage 90% of your shooting
40mm objective means-medium rings should fit ok
Mounts-warne or Talley
OR
dednutz one piece - finely machined, comprise 1pc base and rings.Write to dednutz or search for it on opticsplanet., May/may not be available for the BSA receiver.Fine tolerances.
Since you asked, Sightron will easily surpass Leupold.IMO.Amazing optics, very VFM

Thanks folks Leupold was ordered and with few members help did purchase mounts and other accessories from Brownell. I didnt get mildot its not suitable for such guns IMO. Also Nikon and others brands are probably better bang for the buck.
Will keep you posted
Cheers and thanks

NGrewal,
The reply is a bit late as you have already ordered but I thought I should point out alternatives (for the next time) around your budget.
Sightron as suggested by Eljefe SII 3-9x40 would be in your budget
http://www.bearbasin.com/sightron-rifle-scopes.htm
Docter 1" 3-9x40 scope
http://www.bearbasin.com/docter-optik-rifle-scopes.htm
Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40
http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/zeiss.pl?page=521460
Minox Z 3 3-9x40 (I would buy the open box one for $289.99.These are made by the same people who make Leica)
http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/minox.pl?page=66000
The fellows at cameralandny.com have some very good deals from time to time and plus they are in your area.
If you are not particularly finicky about the cosmetics try these people
http://www.samplelist.com/
Natchez had some good deals on Nitrex scopes and Nikon Refurbished Monarch rifle scopes
I am sure that you factored in the mounting length and the eye relief that you need.

Learning to use a mildot is a 3 day exercise.Carry pda or good ol pocket book, milliradians -whoo-man 4 inches hold over, squeeze-fill your venison Tag
Cameraland was good for us , now he's stopped sending stuff-complaints from local distrib utors who cant bleed us for a 100% margin!

Another issue with mildot scopes is their export is banned in quite a few situations (don't ask me why, I believe it makes them fall into some sort of "military equipment" classification) so you run the risk of not only getting a scope confiscated but possibly other charges as well if you try to bring one out of the USA.
3X9 as we all know is the most common magnification, I have one on my '06 as well, but if I ever get a new scope for it it will most likely be a 2X7. I don't see using 9X where 7X wouldn't work, but I can see a lot more situations where 2X would work better than 3X. Plus, crazy as it sounds, I was in a blind one time with a friend when a nice deer crossed about 15 meters away. I let my friend take the shot because it was a pretty nice deer, and the deer wandered away because he could not find the deer in his scope. At least it wasn't a mad bear!
