Indians For Guns

Hello everybody,

here are two old shotshells which were made in India.
I saw them on the interenet and copied them.



If anybody has any kind of shotshells like this ( fired, empty or useless) I will be very, very interested.
Perhaps people can also post some pictures when you have old shotshells, just for me to know what is out there.

Chances are that both of the above were made in UK for the Indian distributors whose names they carry. Other than that I'm quite clueless... headstamps would be welcome...

I am not sure, but I believe that pre-1947 private ammo manufacturing (in India) was pretty much a no no situation with the only producers being the Brit controlled govt. ordnance factories... Not that much has changed since

Both of these shotshells have a Eley No 16 London headstamp.This is from the period around 1910.
So probably made in England for export to India.

Could you inform me on what manufacturers used to be in India?
I know of the KF and Lyon& Lyon Calcutta, but what else is there?

Many retailer in India used sell shotshells under their names "Manton's" and "Elahee Buksh&Co." being two of them and to name few others R.B Rodda of Calcutta &Co. ,The Bombay Armoury , Goolamhusain Allibhoy & Sons of Bombay and P. Orr and Sons of Madras and Rangoon.

Elahi Baksh is still around and an authorised Arms & Ammo dealer in Moradabad

The shot shells say merrut.. i think our friend Arshad Ahmed would know of elahi bux in moradabad being the same people as it says on shells..

This is misleading.

The Elahee Buksh & Co. Meerut in question not "Elahi Baksh of Moradabad" the former was established in 1835 and now based in Pakistan.

Can you validate your statement...they could be from the same family....many a family did get separated during the partition....besides pre 1947 most large businesses had a presence across undivided India

Elahee Bux and Sons is presently at Latouche Road in Lucknow. They also operate under EBCO Industries manufacturing 12 Bore blank ammo.

Is it relevant to note the 2 spellings buksh (as on the cartridges and the website) and Bux (of lukhnow)

Is anybody able to post some pictures of shotshells carrying their names??
I would be very happy to see some of their products.

Elahee Buksh & Co. closed their business in India and shifted to Pakistan after the partition.

I might be able to help you with pictures of shells from Goolamhusain Allibhoy & Sons of Bombay and The Bombay Armoury because a gentleman I know has couple of specimens of each but I am not sure when will I be able to visit him but I wont be able to help you with P. Orr & Sons because I saw them almost 8 years ago at a Local Gun shop.

I have some really old shotshells. Will try to post pics for you. Foreign as well as Indian makes. Its from 2 inches to 3 and 1/4 inches. Rolled paper cases.

That would be great, there is so little known about Indian shotshells over here in the Netherlands. Any picture or information is highly appreciated.
Information such as producers, years, names etc., etc. is always welcome.
I really look forward to those pictures.

PS When people are interested I can post some more interesting pictures about shotshells.
