If this is a humourous statement, i think it should be under the 'Humour' section.... seems OT here... :P

I clean my ammo in the tumbler... but that isnt going to be possible in desh.

So the Sawdust with a few drops of kerosene would work. Take an emply tim... fill 3/4 with sawdust a few drops of KOil, dump the amo in. And figure out a way to vibrate it for a couple of hours.

Alternatively buff with very fine steel wool, gently.
Dirty ammo shoots just as well as clean ammo, but the latter does look nicer. :)

Vibrate the ammo? Is vibrating ammo safe? Isn't there risk of explosive inside case going off, due to vibration generating heat?

I am sure you mean that you do it with empty brass.Doing that with loaded ammo is a scary thought.Certainly not recommended. If you do it with rifle ammo you are going to break the powder down and the next time you fire it,it might just blow up your rifle.

:agree:

Vibrating or tumbling can prove risky for live ammo... should never be attempted.

http://yarchive.net/gun/ammo/tumble.html.

I've seen quite a few people who reload tumble their casings. I also know at least 2 people who tumble live ammo as well. Never had problems, but I'd stick with just tumbling casings. I think MoA has said he reloads mostly, so I think he is talking about tumbling the empty brass- but only he can clarify.

use a rough cotton canvas cloth

first with dry then with some oil and again with a dry cloth

the best way which i use

I personally have tumbled every caliber I own without any issues.
It does not break the powder down, it will not set off the rounds, and it certainly will shine the ammo right up.
I do it regularly and have as yet to have any issue. Almost every person reloading that I know has done it, without any issues.

I also do tumble empty cases to remove powder residue but that is a different story. Though I do sometimes tumble empties and loaded cartridges together.
I dont use sawdust, but crushed walnut shells.
Anyone who tells you that it is dangerous, quitefrankly is not correctly informed.

I'd have to back that up, I checked with my friends that do tumble, haven't ever had a problem, perfectly safe they said. But do whatever you're comfortable with.

I don't understand what you have written. Reloading for your own licensed firearm is allowed. It may be difficult to do so because of lack of supplies and all but people still do it. Why the bank gaurd reference? I mean I'm gulity of cleaning up my .22 ammo to prevent jams in my rifle and I am also guilty of lubing them for extra blinge.
Have I offended you enough? . You know we gun freaks are a little whacked out.

Hey Dev

I dint mean to offend jsut like somebody else wrote shouldnt this topic be in the humor section
you dont know me but ya im just about as whacked out as the next gun freak
about the only thing I dont have figured out is how to reload .22 s

now for my serious opinion of this topic of polishing brass

All cartridges are coated with some protective layer or the other right from the times of mangal pandey which as you will remember caused the mutiny.
Rubbing a cartridge with kerosene and sawdust at the end of summer and leaving it around in the monsoon will definitely land you in trouble. as it will allow moisture to enter the bullets

Polish cartridges just before firing them ( mandatory on our range if you are using sellior and bellet ammo)

There is also a chap I know who loosens 22 rounds warms them and drops them in k oil and says it doubles the velocity if some oil gets in.

Yet to my knowledge polishing bullets only removes the preservative and that I think is something to remember and of you do polish then make sure you re preserve ammo that is going to lie around

regards

Hello Olly,
I don't think that moisture will enter inside the 'CASE' if it is rubbed with a mixture of Saw-dust and Kerosene, Because the 'CASE' is coated with a Varnish from inside the Walls and then Bullet is inserted, So IF you keep the Cartridge dipped in any Chemical for a long time only then it would melt the Varnish and allow moisture to enter the 'CASE'.

Thanks.

I have heard polishing of decorative objects like jewelery, glass, mirrors, cars etc. But never ammo. Shining ammo is never good for camouflage. Yes if you are shooting movie, and want your hero to be in shiny Armour, sorry ammo then it makes sense. :D
