Re: .38 cartridge vs .380
No, because of the following:-
1 .38 is rimmed cartridge which is meant for wheel guns (revolvers) while .380/.380 auto/9mm short/9 mm carto/9 mm kurtz is rimless cartridge used in semi auto pistols.
2. .38 and .380 have different physical and technical features (see below):
Cartridge Length of 380 is 0.980 in while for .38 it is 1.550 in
Case Length of 380 is 0.680 in while for .38 it is 1.160 in
Case Diameter of 380 is 0.373 in while for .38 it is 0.379 in
Bullet Diameter of 380 is 0.356 in while for .38 it is 0.357 in
Muzzle Velocities of 380 is 900 to 1050 ft/sec while for .38 it is 710 to 1250 ft/sec
Muzzle Energies of 380 is 168 to 220 ft-lb while for .38 it is 166 to 382 ft-lb
Now you can see, in case of .380, apart from the problem of holding the cartridge at right place in chamber of revolver, it has less pressurre, less bullet diameter and less case diameter. So don't try this.
