No idea about importing into India, however Hirtenberger of Austria is currently manufacturing 6.5.54 MS with 160 grain Sierra bullets. I also have a M-1903 & shoot it once in awhile. GREAT & very beautiful rifle. Be a shame to have it re-barreled or drilled to inert it.

I am very glad to know a fellow admirer of the M-S 1903. It is a beauty. If I may ask, is your M-1903 a Sporter? The one in my family is a Sporter.
It will be Shameful and dishonorable "to have it re-barreled or drilled to inert it". But the very unfortunate 3 gun limit on an arms license in India does not help much.
Thankfully Vineet helped me find some ammo... and raised my hopes of owning this beauty.

That would have been good advice some years ago. Hirtenberg stopped production of sporting ammunition quite a few years ago, 2004, I believe.

Mannlicher Shoenauer 1903 is one rifle I intend taking to grave with me. I have yet to come across a better engineered fire arm which is a delight to handle and shoot and I have owned Mauser 98s and ZKKs by Brno. As for ammo, this rifle is certainly worth every effort you'd put in to find the ammo for.

This is the beauty I am talking about. Manufactured sometime in 1927 as per the marking on the action.. Now possessed by yours truly for about 19 years.

Checking the net, there are currently two manufacturers listing the 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer cartridge. RWS (again) and Kynamco in the UK. So, if you can find a dealer who can import, time to stock up.

That's bloody good news Tworivers. I am an ardent user of RWS ammo. I have found this ammo to accurate as well as powerful unlike American ammo which has a big wallop but is weak in accuracy dept. thanks for this piece of news.

One should be aware If one decides to re chamber a Mannlicher Schoenauer rifle to accommodate any other caliber as the rotary magazine is precisely designed to accommodate a particular ammo for which the rifle is originally made. Many an enthus have blotched up a perfect rifle and were compelled to turn them into single shots. The rotary magazine by itself is apiece of finest Austrian engineering. I own one too in cal. 6.5x54mm and have studied this rifle extensively while taking utmost care to keep it as factory new. There are quite a few 6.5 mm crtges but all differ from one another in over all dimensions.
