Required rifle cartridge for .423 Mauser
Hello Sellers,
My father owns .423 Mauser rifle. As this is an obsolete gun so we are struggling to find cartridges for it.
Does anyone know, where can I find it? I would need 10-15 cartridges.

Going to be very difficult. There is a Yellow Pages section on this forum. You can try calling various dealers in your area and see if they can source some for you.
Remember: There are two cartridges. The German followed the metric system. One is 10.75x68mm and the other is 10.75x63. You need to check which one your rifle is chambered for. If possible, please post the photos of your rifle, clearly showing the markings on it.

10.75x68 Mauser is called .423 Mauser by Britishers where as 10.75x74 is a British cartridge known as .404 Jaffery

There is a 10.75 x 63 Mauser, but very rare, the .423 Mauser as we know in India is usually the 10.75x68. How someone came about 10.75x63 cartridges is anybody's guess. The 10.75 x 73 is the 404 Jeffery or the 404 Nitro Express.marksman wrote:10.75x68 Mauser is called .423 Mauser by Britishers where as 10.75x74 is a British cartridge known as .404 Jaffery

Hello Vikram, Leo09,Marksman and Shooter50,
Thanks for your responses. I have attached few photographs of my gun and cartridges which fits in my gun. Please take a look and let me know if there is any possibility to find these. I will start calling yellow pages now.
Tried to add photos here but didn't find any option for it.

Re: Required rifle cartridge for .423 Mauser
The rifle has seen real use!!, difficult to make out from the pictures, seems to be an older cheaper model with the M98 standard rear sight. The premium models came equipped with express sights. Take a good ruler and measure the length of the cartridge case. If it is 68 mm then it is a 10.75x68, if the length is 63 mm it would be a 10.75x 63. Very difficult to find usable ammo for this round.ramkinkarpandey wrote:Hello Vikram, Leo09,Marksman and Shooter50,

Re: Required rifle cartridge for .423 Mauser
Hi,
My grandfather also had this rifle. To the best of my knowledge, we had tried to create a group of 423 owners to place order, which would be sufficient for any dealer to import. But that never took of.
Any ammo that you might even find, will be very old and considering the price dealer were asking, 10 yr back they were asking 350 a pop. I would have serious doubt if they will even fire, unless the owner has kept it really well.
This ammo has made some come back in Africa and Hornady had started producing them. If you search the forum, i think there are few other members, who are owner of it, so may be you can create a group of ppl and with a min committed order, a dealer might be able to import something for you. Just a thought.

I second what Shooter50 said. The photos tell us little about the cartridge's length. Do measure it. Also, in the case of getting hold of some ammunition, do check the barrel and bolt for pitting, rust, any visible damage, etc.
