be ready to raise the white flag and surrender them to Indian Customs . Its an absolute NO . Any blade beyond 9 inches in total length and 2 inches wide is taken seriously.

I would be a little optimistic and say that it purely depends on your luck. Know people who have got samurai swords in without even being stopped by the customs. So it is anyones guess what might happen if you walk in with a sword in the baggage.

:agree: totally, I personally know atleast 2 person who have brought two katanas from abroad and was not even bothered by the customs, although the law says can't get a blade in the country with length more than 9" but sometimes the luck do favour.

I don't know the exact law relating to it but I know that it is not legal for an individual to own a blade length more than 9" in length and 2" wide except for agricultural, industrial tools etc. as I suppose mentioned in the arms act 1959 so goes for the import law.

Probably you are referring to Category V of Schedule I of Arms Rules. It does not really mean what you are thinking it to mean. Notification under Section 4 of Arms Act means practically everything regardless of this.

Arms Act is different from import laws. I don't think any such import law exists.

Well then DGFT must have some kind of guidelines regarding blades or they don't have any specific?

In any case i leave it to thakurrana's discretion . I feel it is not worth having the goods seized and waste time arguing with the Customs .If he is willing to take a chance well and fine ..Swords are available here too .

EXIM Policy guides them. Last time I checked the policy was free for edged arms. Please read the following post http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 76#p155776
