Indians For Guns

Having acquired two gems of working knives, an Essee Candiru and a Blind Horse Knives Little Work Horse, I found that their sheaths were not what I wanted for my field trips. The original Candiru sheath is nylon with a Velcro fastener, noisy and cumbersome in the outdoors. The original BHK leather sheath is lovely but so over engineered that it is twice the size of the knife!
I acquired some oiled leather and taught myself the following skills, saddle stitching with two needles, wet moulding leather. The results are in the pics.
The scales of the Candiru are teak, made by me, work in progress, as I have yet to give it a linseed oil finish. I have also started learning how to make Micarta and will put up pics as soon as I have something useful.
The neon orange lanyard/fobs are to spot the knife in the forest if and when I drop it, as I have done twice! .....and mercifully recovered.

The texture is so rich. Those sheaths are gonna last a lifetime. Love the wooden scales too. Cant wait to see the oi finish. Great DIY project

I also brought all the materials to make micarta handle for my DIY knife but unfortunately not getting time for it

Pratik, yes I have the material for micarta, but have not had the time to work on it. Neon coloured string, I got mine from a road side lace-wallah. these are funky laces and you get them in all colours. Pratik, if you are willing to pick up I can get some for you.
Briha sir, the choice of colour was limited by what my neighbourhood mochi got me. I now have a piece of natural coloured leather.
Essdee, how much and what thickness do you need? I have got pretty thick and hard stuff for sheaths, don't want to stab my femoral artery or decapitate the family jewels!

No, sir. Making a wallet out of sheath leather will ensure your arteries and jewels are perfectly "armored". As long as you keep standing, that is!!

Sir, going for the leather tomorrow. I think I'll empty that guy's shop. Many leather projects hatching in the incubation chamber of a relatively idle mind!

Can micarta be made with old jeans and araldite, compressed with a rolling pin (aka belan)?

Yes essdee1972 - Denim is an ideal material that can be used along with 'epoxy glue' (araldite) for making 'micarta' handles for knives...
The 'belan' can be very effectively used to compress the layers - suggest you do some 'push-ups' to strengthen your shoulder to deliver the pressure needed to ensure proper compression

Two C clamps with a wooden plank will work way better than a belan

Thanks, gentlemen. I have some denim my son grew out of, a large pack of Araldite, and C-clamps and wood. (the belan, I'll leave aside - it might give the better half some ideas of testing its strength on my head!!).
