Scouts Knives
I found two knives in a friends house. ..Both have stacked leather washer handles one has inscription on both sides. .. One Side :world Scout Jamboree, 194-? The other side Tata India
The other one has Scouter on the blade And House of INDTS BD India
One has a brass pommel and the other aluminium
Both have very well crafted leather sheaths.
The steel. .. Very slightly patina... But very shiny. Considering that there is no sign of oil or grease. .. It appears stainless to a degree.
Any idea of the steel used? The handles are beautifully finished but blades are not so fine.
Can any one guide me as to the provenance of such blades?

1930's-40's Vintage CASE Hunting Knife & Sheath * Case XX USA. It has been used and has been nicely cleaned up. The knife is completely solid and looks good. $69.95 on e-bay.

Lanceman, After our conversation yesterday I did some scouting myself. Will be talking to someone who retired from Tata Steel after a long service. The old gentleman is not tech savvy so have to take my laptop to him and show the pics. Lets see

Lanceman, great finds! Funny things keep turning up in old attics!
The only World Scout Jamboree in 1940's was in 1947 in Paris. The 1941 scheduled in London had to be postponed due to old Adolf rampaging around.
A quick search brought out no reference to any commemorative knife, or any linkage with Tatas.

Thanks guys, I am asking the owner (now the ex - owner!) to try and find out, it was his grandfather who was the Scout. Apparently this grandfather was one of the pioneers of Scouting in India. But all people involved are no more and so he is talking around.

Sorry, Lanceman I have drawn a blank. The old man can't remember seeing these knives. Personally, on inspecting the knives, i think these were made locally by some good knifesmith and the markings were hand punched using specially made die. The unevenness in the placement of the markings and the striking difference in blade shapes as well as use of both brass and aluminum in pommel has led me to believe that the blades were not machine finished as part of a single production line. However, if what I feel is true then the knives become all the more valuable. Purely my observation.
