Hi folks I am looking for well made khukri with high grades of material used and having nice craftsmanship. Can anybody tell where can I find such khukri in India.

Hi Raman! Welcome to the "looking for a Khukri" club!!

The 2 best sources of Khukris in Nepal - Khukhuri House and Himalayan Exports - stopped shipping to India (HE never did ship to India, anyway, they are a US based business). KKH told me some months back that they can ship to Darjeeling / Siliguri and I would need to have it picked up from there.

I have asked sundry people from Nepali watchmen to businessmen with contact in Nepal - everyone blames the overzealous Indian security.

Probably the best bet would be the guys in Dehradoon supplying the Army. If they sell. Though somewhere on this forum, those knives have been castigated quite a bit. Or to find a blacksmith who can shape a truck spring to a Khukri as per your specs. Or maybe if you know someone in US, ask him to order one from the Nepalese guys above, and get it in checked baggage. A pretty risky proposition, if the Customs guy on the x-rays here is a bit more awake than usual, your friend might have some difficulties! Of course, if you have a friend in the Gurkha regiments.........

Whats the targetted primary usage bracket ? :

1. Safe Queen
2. Occasional Camping Tool
3. Anti-Zombie Blade

Dehradun, Mussorie might be a good bet as another member has stated. If you know a bit about blades might be able to pick up a "best among the breed".
I picked mine up circa 2002 and have used it to chop trees (girth measuring: 14-16 inches ) and branches, slaughtered goats. It's still holding up, my only grouse is that the Handle and the rear bolster could have been better.

Check out Windlass Steelcrafts.
They are based in Dehradun and have made swords, armour and other stuff for Hollywood movies like "Lord of the Rings" and "Gladiator".
I have picked up stuff from them before. It is expensive but really good.

Gentlemen, if you can get someone who ships reasonably decent khukris to Mumbai through proper legal channel, please let me know!

Hi essdee thanks for your suggestion actually I am looking for something that is more traditional and yet should be a workhorse sturdy enough to be kept as a family heirloom should be made with finest quality materials, whatever khukri that I have come across is something which is with a sloppy handler and even more sloppy case.

Hi OUP I would most likely say all of the above, seems like you read my mind actually I didn't thought of zombies but not a bad point to add for good khukri blade . Something with amazing craftsmanship and even greater performance.

Do they have website for picture reference of their products. If you don't mind sending the picture of your stuff that you purchased from there would be wonderful and easy to understand the kind of work they do.

If you want a Khukri for cutting/chopping wood or any camping/Hiking activity, contact the Gurkha Museum, Pokhara, Nepal.
They have the best, military grade Khukris. They khukris they sell are the ones which are used by British Gurkha regiments (As the Museum itself is maintained by British Army). Note that these khukris are extremely well built but are not for show off or decor. These are plain and simple. They have the best price you'll ever find for the quality.

Bought one 6'' blade khukri for around 400 INR. Amazing grip and quality. Authentic Army Khukri. brought it via plane. No one stopped me or asked any questions. I was told by a retired Indian Gurkha Army soldier, that they do sell 12'' variant too to many Indians and haven't faced ant problem yet.
So do try them.

If you want something that looks good, go for Khukri house.

If you plan a vacation. Nepal is easy and cheap to go and a great place to visit. For decor Khukris, go to Thamel market. You'll find thousands of khukris. If you want some real hard core stuff. Go to Pokhara.

Not sure if Amazon will ship this to India. But this is superb functional Kukri. I use it regularly to clear trails. Just this weekend, I worked through multiple 2" to 3.5" dia thorny branches. It just mulched through them like knife through butter. And no wrist fatigue.

Anything checked in should be fine, as long as it is not fire arms, drugs or other such contraband items. Knives, don't think fall under this purview. most of my knives are acquired in US. I have brought back pack axes, kukri, etc. I still have a katana, which I have to bring back. But the kukri lenght is 17", blade 11.5, and wasn't stopped.
