I have been EDC'ing my ESEE Izula for over a year now and have tried a few other ... only one with stainless steel, has the nicest handle scales option, sheeth ... The SS was supposed to come out this year.If it had, we would have seen them no?

Summer 2013, which is around June this year. Oh and btw for those who opt for the ss version because the 1095 rusts due to lack of cleaning should not be getting knives in the first place.

Would it be sharper than the ordinary steel knife?

No. A better question is: would it hold better edge (edge retention), and easy to sharpen.

Not always - VG10, and S30V hold pretty decent edge, and are easy to sharpen as well.

So does my leaf spring khukri.Use it to chop dry wood during winter into smaller pieces.

Poorly heat treated s30v chipped and so did s35vn in the early days. By now major manufacturers have learnt proper heat treating and no chipping.

Skyman Paul Bos' formula for s30v is: 1975F hardening, cold nitrogen into an evacuated retort for quenching to below 1000F, cool to room temp, snap temper, cryofreeze over night, followed by two 600F tempers for two hours each bringing the steel to HRC59/60 i.e the S30V Blade is not shoved in a charcoal furnance and then dipped in water.

S 30V is a high end tool steel with high wear resistance and edge retention. It is HT to RC 60. because of the HT required and because it is harder to sharpen in the field, high carbon steels like 1095 used in Beckers, Esee and other superb bushcraft knives.

Hi Winnie; A simple answer would be yes. CPMS30V is a powder steel so can take a much finer edge compared to traditionally cast or rolled steels. Because the transverse toughness of this steel is high it can be sharpened to a much finer angle (and not roll) than convenetional steel and because of the vanadium content will retain its edge longer.

Hi Winnie, two different things being discussed. Chopping with the Khuk is easier becuase of the forward heavy recurve blade geometry of the Khukri. For chopping you need a bigger wedge shaped profile while cutting you need a finer section. An relatively blunt axe will chop wood better than your khukri. Try and fillet a fish or cut tomotoes with it to know what I mean.

We are discussing edge retention and ease of sharpening and not the chopping ability of various knives.I mentioned chopping dry wood as it is harder than green wood and so blunts the edge faster.

Speed reading ?????
