Hi HJD;

That's a Bichwa, but made in brass. Look it up on the internet.

Regards
Moin.

Thanks Moin..
I'm not too savvy with the technicalities, I just buy the knives that appeal to me (and are in my modest budget ;-)
However, thanks for the info though..

Dear HJD, Good looking piece you have there.
Can you share some details about the bichwa - like what is the blade length, the price, the place (village/ district etc.) - any specific "bazaar" ? Is it entirely brass ?

Bichwa, is a traditional maratha dagger, used for thrusting in close combat, it is invariably curved with a double edge and is easily concealable.

Dear HJD,
Still awaiting the info. Since I am based in MH and often go on road trips, thought may be I shall check this bazaar out some day.

I got this from a market on my way to mahtrewadi from nashik.. It was closer to mahtrewadi..
The price I paid - Rs 400 + some additional amount for getting my name engraved on it..

About it being entirely brass, I believe it is, however I'm not sure..

The overall length is 10.5" with the blade being 6.5"..

such places where such niche objects are available are dwindling , i think we should ask all our brethren to compile a list of such hamlets or hidden places & destinations where such curious 7 objects of intrest are available , or else let us start a new topic by the name MERA GAON MERA DESH where individual members can write about their own curios shopping experiences from all over india .
