Hello,
Anyone bought a sword, katana, broadsword or whatever and got it through customs?

Browse the forum a little. You will get a good understanding of custom rules.
Btw, legal limit to import is 9 inches long, 2inches wide blade. Its not advisable to impprt any thing above 8 inches.

If you search this forum, you will find instead of importing swords you can get swords of pretty good quality and workmanship within the country itself. Before buying, ensure no Notifications under Section 4 of Arms Act 1959 are in force, wherever you are in possession of the sword.

Then why not give a try to import one? Also you are already aware of the thread where we had a long discussion about importance of Section 4 of Arms Act 1959.

I did.No restrictions of any kind in Karnataka. The reply said there was no restrictions regarding blades, issued by the state govt, which should have been done for 9 and 2 inch plus blades.
On a lighter note, i see you abstaining from discussions such as these. Why so?

Is it an official document that you have? If yes, could you please let us know the authority who issued it? If you have a document at hand, could you please scan it and post the copy here? It will help a lot of people.

If you do not mind, I would like to see it. I would like to see how a state government department said it was OK to import swords. Did you file an RTI to get this letter? Thanks.
