i feel it has done much better job than cutting onions.......great knives.

Well, almost complete. Where is the "pry bar" Esee 5?

Did you choose the laser strike (with a similar blade length) over it or missed posting the picture or it is on the way?

The custom scales look good on the older version Izula and the 6.

Almost missed it. The handle on the Esee 4 is not the regular one. The pommel is not exposed. These scales have been changed too!

I am not fond of thick blades unless it's on a Khukuri or some other heavy duty chopper. However, I will probably add it to the collection. A 1/8" thick blade is strong enough and a far more efficient slicer. That's why the 3 is my favourite. It's the right size for the majority of my needs as well (I prefer knives in the Candiru to 4 length). I wish they had made the Izula I & II 1/8" thk. instead of 3/16" thk.

I had no intention of buying the LS but when the punters started ooh'ing and aah'ing about how comfortable the handle was, curiosity got the better of me. It's okay but I have yet to use it outdoors, so maybe I'll change my opinion then.

Yes, the Izula-II, 4 and 6 have G10 scales.

Another advantage of a heavy blade is that it does not get deflected in case you hit a hard dried branch or are chopping hard wood.You are certainly spoilt for choice there.

There's no denying that heavier blades are better choppers but I like my choppers to have a bit more reach than that provided by a 4" or 5" blade. Upto 5" I prefer my blades to be thinner since they aren't true choppers, so I might as well have a better slicer.

Having said that, I have just ordered the 5, so we'll see what all the fuss is about.

What I am really keen to get is a decent machete. They cost nothing and from what I see they are very efficient. Combine that with a small and/or mid-sized blade and I really don't need the others. I'll probably sell off the majority in due course of time.

No fuss. If you gotta have em you gotta have em all. Even the distant cousin: the Eskabar.

These are a bit thick and heavy but some people like the 1/4" slabs of steel as they give a very reassuring feel. Dont know if they all use them. But these should be pretty good for all jobs other than cutting and there are many if you really come down to it.

In the current category we are discussing there are three companies: Esee (including the knives from Ontario), Becker and Fallkniven. Their products account for most of the bulk sale in this segment and they all have these .2 to .25" thick blades in similar lengths. The Esee 5, BK2 and the Fallkniven S1 (also A1).

I guess they all have to have what the other company is carrying because in the end there are many people comparing stuff before buying.

I know what you are saying and have gone through that phase as well.

However, if you think of a knife as merely a tool then it makes sense to get the most efficient tool for the job.

Have a look at the attached pic (Courtesy Esee Knives) to see what usage a 3 (half the thickness of a BK2) can take and still survive.



I would add the Barkie Bravo to your list of contenders.

P.S.: Have they fixed the sheath for the Eskabar?
