Not fair,
You have to post how you do it with the tools so we all get to learn (and lots and lots of pics)...

Looks like "embossing" where you have dies with these designs and these are pressed (or hammered) on to the leather so the dies leave a permanent impression of their design on the leather or simple tools may be used to create these designs in the same style as described above but here one has to be creative and make all the designs manually. Is this correct?
Or maybe this is a combination of both carving / cutting + embossing / imprinting?
Nice work!

Does't appear to be embossed, the pattern is raised. Seems to be cut into thick leather using probably disposable scalpel or tnin box cutter type blade. I am not sure how the basket knit pattern has been done though..

When the border of the design is embossed the middle looks raised i.e. the sunken lines that you see are embossed making the other area look raised. I am familiar with this technique and have seen how it is done.
Jonah will have to tell us if it is only artistic embossing or a combination of carving (cutting and peeling) and embossing.
Embossing / stamping might sound like it is very simple but it is not and takes a lot of attention and detailing.

Jonah,
This is gorgeous craftsmanship. The work is intricate, original and very tricky stuff. Moin, Rajat and I are curious and wondering how this was done... and thats the power of great work. The French artist Christian Boltanski once remarked:
"The task is to create a formal work that is at the same time recognized by the spectator as a sentimentally charged object. Everyone brings his own history to it." ...you succeeded

Hello fellas sorry I couldnt answer your queries for sometime as I was caught up with some work.. Slingshot you are too kind with your words but thanks anyway!
It's actually not too difficult if you have the proper tools. I had recently ordered some leather working tools from ebay (Tandy Tools) consisting of an awl, some stamping tools and a swivel knife (for the carving) looked up a few 'how to' flicks on you tube apply some local brains and Taa dah! Well.. the leather I got from Kolkota was too thick and stiff and it was practically impossible to make the holes for the stitching by the method of punching with an appropriate sized punch made with a nail (even after drenching it in a bucket of water for a few days) so I tried a red hot nail which did the job but gave ugly results.. Next time I will use a small drill bit.. Catch you later guys!

Never seen a cow hide that tough, I'm friends with a dhol (drum) maker and I guess I could help you out if you need leather.
Most people here throws dead cows in the field for vultures to feast on, I guess I could skin it at night
