I recently purchased TOPS / BUCKS CSAR-T knife. It is a great knife but looks like the dealer purposely rubbed it in some hard surface to remove its sharpness. So can someone suggest me a good sharpening tool to sharpen such knifes without loosing its shine and there should'nt be any Scratches on the blade

Maverick, please go through this thread. I was provided with all the guidance required by all the veteran members of this forum and helped me to zero in the sharpner of my choice. I use a Lansky and I'm very happy with it.

I've had a Gatco Edgemate System Knife Sharpener for a while now as well as an AnySharp Edge which a friend gifted me just last month. While the Edgemate has flexibility and can do a finer job I now seem to end up using the AnySharp much more often - it's handy (keep it in my tackle bag) and gives a great edge for most purposes within seconds/ minutes (depending on how dull the blade is).

As usual the standard YMMV applies

Maverick, you can try Spyderco Triangle, only thing is that the replacement stones are as costly as the entire system (almost)! As I found out to my cost.

Never, never use a carborundum stone, unless you are en expert sharpener! Also found out to my cost!

Also, can't you look at returning the knife to the shop, if it looks intentionally damaged?

There is no need for further researching the topic. Buy one of these based on your judgement and I am sure that you will be happy with the purchase.

Rajat, bang on! Dropped one of the mediums, and like a (uhh... whatever) jerked my toe out of the way! My toe would have cost less than $ 12.95 + $ 29.00 shipping!! Thank God I used to be good at jigsaw puzzles and fevikwik! That Tri-Angle is now a mono-angle!!

I purchased that knife from ebay. It isn't damaged, but looks like the custom people purposely destroyed its sharp edge. The knife is in very good condition with no damage or scratch except for sharpness

Where in Delhi can i find there sharpners? Just like the knife do I have to purchase it online?

I do not think that you will find the Spyderco, Lansky etc in India. The best way is to go online I think.

I now seem to end up using the AnySharp much more often - it's handy...

....and just the sort of thing for lazy blighters like you! So how many of your knives now sport multiple bevels?

That thingy wont last too long, so don't get rid of your Gatco....unless you really want to upgrade.

BTW, ask your friend if he uses the LazySharp on his custom Aussie knives.

In old days, I used to use straight razor for shaving. No other choice other than relying upon oil stone and old lather belt. Is it too difficult to use to same thing now? or just we have a habit of finding unusual stuff for very usual stuff?

For many that is most definitely true because they have not been taught how to hone and strop. That includes me as well but I am getting better without resorting to LazySharps.

My EDC Victorinox, a couple of Rampuris and all of my kitchen knives... since I've begun to spend a lot of time in the kitchen now, sharpish knives really help things along and a quick & easy way to sharpen them is just the ticket!

After reading this thread. Using stone or any manual tool sounds tedious, specially for someone like me, who is a beginner. So how good is this or an electric sharpner?

Sharpening manually might result in un-even edges. I think Lanskylooks good. Where can I purchase it from online?
