Was watching Ninja Assasin on TV last nigh ( for the 4th Time  ) was fascinated by the small knife used by Raizo to kill the fat Russian. A bit of R&D on the internet and I came to know about this wonderful little & lethal knife.

Check out some pics

moin...the SS that you have most probably will not have enough carbon to hold and edge.

the best choice (IMHO) for a kirdashi is a chisel blank that you can get from any hardware shop. a flat chisel blank 1.5" wide will be 4~5 mm thick. all you will need to do is cut off the rat tail tang, cut the edge side to an angle of your liking, sharpen it and...voila!...you have your kirdashi.

Go to a hardware store which sells wood working equipment and buy a blade made for a thickness planner or a Jointer (locally called a Shaper and a Gauge machine). It will give you all that is needed for an extremely tough blade with edge retention capabilities. Should not cost much and you will be able to choose from different lengths. There will be different materials available but just go in for the HS / HC ones.
