Multi-tool, info needed

Hello all,

I am planning to buy a multi-tool and have narrowed down my choices to Leatherman Supertool 300 and Leatherman Surge. There's a third one too, Leatherman Supertool 300 EOD. I do know that Victorinox Swiss tools are very good, but couldn't gather much information from their brochures. Could you suggest whether I should go for a Victorinox or a Leatherman or if there are other alternatives too.

Leatherman without doubt. Victorinox, IMHO, is the Sony of multitools - just like Sony charges brand premium for their LCD/LED TVs', so does Victorinox. You should also check out SOG multi-tools - I have heard very good things about them, though don't have personal experience. If you intend to EDC, the ones you have chosen are large and unsuitable for daily carry on your waist (unless your job requires it), opt for smaller ones like Leatherman P* (P4, PS4, etc.) series (or similar sized ones). I EDC a P4, and carry a Gerber Diesel in car.

I have been wearing a leatherman wave on my waist for about 7 years now ( I work in a lab where i need a tool handy). I would highly recommend a leatherman. I dont like the newer waves as much. Recently gifted the Surge to a friend of mine, he loves it too.

The Leatherman tools have a very strong reputation without any doubt you may go in for one without any second thoughts.

This said, Victorinox always makes quality multi tools and I recommend these too based on my experience. Go to the Victorinox website and you will get all required information there. I see that you live in Delhi, go to Connaught Circle / place and you will find the Base Camp store there on the inner circle. They carry the complete range, check it out.

I will not carry it as an EDC. I will keep it in my Royal Enfield or my car. I will mostly carry it along on my long biking trips or adventure tours. SOG is not available in New Delhi but both Victorinox and Leatherman are available. So I am giving the SOG a miss. Will check out the Victorinox range too. Will keep you all posted.

I have a couple of Gerbers that I like. However, they are more of a blunt tipped plier and not a needle nose plier, which I prefer though you may not. Anyway, both are over 15 years old and have seen a lot of use and still are in good shape so if they are available they are also worth a look to see if you like the style.

I have opted for a Victorinox. The blades on offer seemed more apt to my requirements.
@ Rajat. Yes I did go to the Victorinox showroom in CP, New Delhi. They were selling the model of my choice for around Rs 8700. I have ordered the same model via 20north and including customs and shipping I had to pay Rs 6930/- through my card. Just goes on to show how we folks are being fleeced by the merchants.
@Mark. I have had a bad experience with a Gerber once. It was a prodigy and I will think twice about buying a Gerber product again. No offences. That's strictly my personal opinion. Maybe their products are not as good as they were earlier.
