List of dealers

Every now and then, some or the other members ask names of dealerships in certain cities in any thread or discussion post. I am just giving the example of some gentleman asking Subal about any shops in Delhi selling knives. No offences, but it is better if we each add whatever we information we have to a common database for all members to search through.

Here I shall post the list of knife shops in New Delhi I am aware of. Members from other cities pls add to the list.

1) Victorinox showroom -CP. Brands available Muela and Victorinox. Wenger may be made available in some time because of the merger between the two SAK makers
2) Adventure 18 - Opp Venkateshwara College, Dhaula Kuan - Gerber and Victorinox SAKs
3) There are three gun shops in Old Delhi near ISBT - They claim to sell hunting knives made of Damascus steel
4) A firearms shop in Connaught place (there is only one in CP outer circle near Tribune Newspaper office) also has some stock of hunting knives
5) Leatherman tools - Young India Films, Mr.Atulya Chabra, D-83, 2nd Floor, Malviya Nagar, New Delhi - 17. Mobile: 098102-40205, FAX:011-40524989

We can move this thread to the yellow pages section. There are some good info there also, but focussed more on guns.

Cheers!

It's the second name on the list - Adventure 18. Yes, they do sell stuff at a premium.

Mumbai, from my experience:

Basecamp (Muela, Victorinox - the entire range from knives to laptop backpacks) - Korum Mall, Thane; High Street Phoenix; Oberoi Mall (might be more).
Victorinox showroom - Pedder Road, just opp Cadbury (sorry, Kraft).
M. Saleh & Sons - opp Crawford Market. Also guns, sjamboks. A pleasure to deal with. Got my Nieto there. Since they are 3 generations in the business, they know what is what. Best part is, they don't hardsell!
Other stores in & around Crawford Market area.
Any Crossword store keeps Vics. I think Landmark (Phoenix) also does.
Home Town in Vikhroli West now has a shop-in-shop of Coleman - mostly coolers and cool-paks, but some camp axes, shovels, etc. also seen.

Warning: No chain store (Basecamp, Crossword) will be able to give you any worthwhile info. The sale people are not much interested whether they are working for Basecamp or Big Bazaar. Don't ask them when the next shipment will come in. They don't know! (Bad experience looking for Zippo flints, finally had to call up the distributor).

Please add some more, Moin and all, I feel the need for another high (a new sharp thing) coming up! :)

Cheers!

Well, you've captured most of it,

1) There's a new basecamp store in the just opened Infinti Mall at Malad West (before Croma). Your standard vitorinoxes and Muelas.

2) Heera Pannna at Hajiali where you'll find a lot of Chinese Knockoff's, but occasional good knives. I've seen some Spyderco's, Muelas but insanely expensive.

3) Elcheapo Chinese ones available in the Musafirkhana Lane.

I saw a very nice Nieto boot knife at Saleh , 4" 440C double edge blade, razor sharp, nice blood groove in the centre, very nice handle and the tang juts out the handle as a glass breaker. Was willing to let it go for 2100. The sheath was lousy though :) :) Have a look Esdee...... Sweet Piece....

Moin.

What are these sjamboks???

Prasanjit, Sjambok (sham-bawk) is a type of semi-rigid whip, originally made from rhino or hippo hide, historically used on animals and humans alike in Africa. They are currently banned in many African countries because of historical associations with Apartheid / slavery. The ones available at Saleh's are the moulded plastic ones made by Cold Steel of US. I use mine to safeguard my puppy from stray dogs, till such time he grows up.

Check wikipedia for details on sjambok.

Thanks, Moin, will check out the boot knife. Nieto sheaths are always very functional and look quite cheap. The one I have also has a camo pattern canvas sheath. Muela sheaths are much nicer, but the knife looks and feels like a showpiece rather than a functional one.
