Re: Khasi (Meghalaya) Folder
Thats the 'lock' more of a stopper which prevents it from doing a 360

Re: Khasi (Meghalaya) Folder
Jonah,
Managed to dig out this cousin of yours from my chest....
He's seems a lil' better dressed, as I took the liberty of painting him on his metals and give him a good rub of wax on his woodens... !!!
Since he's from your part of the woods, hope you wouldn't mind the indiscretion ...
PS - Thanks for getting me his name - KHASI !!!!

Re: Khasi (Meghalaya) Folder
Its used for betel nut (KWAI) cutting mostly in Meghalaya. Other everyday usage is also common.
@Olly,
Khasi is the name of the tribe, the folder IIRC is called tarij in Khasi or Kotari in Assamese.

Re: Khasi (Meghalaya) Folder
It appears this folder does not have a locking mechanism to keep the blade firmly in locked position once opened like as in rampuri knives.

Apart from its usual purpose as a kwai (betel nut) knife, and somewhat skinny blade, an incredibly versatile knife. Very popular and available in many sizes at weekly bazaar rates.

I suspect that the elongated back of the tang, which extends over to the woodens, is supposed to act like a lock when gripped firmly.... I crude but effective jugaad, I believe... !
