I have a few questions regarding these knives. most of you would be fimiliar with them as they are show in alot of movies including our very own bollywood.
1)are these knives legal in India? Because in some countries like Australia, Germany and some states in america it is illegal to have them.
2) if they are legal where can i get them in mumbai?
3)any other info is highly appreciated about these knives the history, best butterfly knives, tricks etc.
Mods if similar thread exist im sorry please merge this thread with the existing or post a link and close this thread.

to answer the questions,
1) length of knife has to comply with Indian law, anything less than 10 inches wouldnt attract much trouble. balisong as such is not banned in India.
2) not sure, will wait for someone there to respond. Most would be cheap Chinese imports, watchout for the star screws holding the blade and buy only in pairs.. else it might be heartbreak by day end, especially if you are
learning
some tricks!!!
3) lot of online reads,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balisong_(knife) and if it about tricks, go to video heaven youtube. a lot of tutiorials are avaialble there.

you will have a lot fun with balisong knife, but as practical tool it cant stand near any modern fast opening folder, like m16 or more costly zero tollerance or emerson wave knives

Sudesh,
Balisong knives if well made are pretty sturdy. They are usually designed to cut and slash and for light to medium daily chores. The only weak spot I believe is the places where the knife blade is riveted to the handle. I have a German made Balisong ,a thing of beauty made by "KLASS" cutlury called "Dragon Claw". M.Saleh does not sell Balisong knife, in fact what they sell is a knife patented by Cold Steel called "Triple Action". It's a design where the blade gets totally encased in the two piece handle and needs different kind of manipulation to open it which is not very unlike a Balisong but indeed very intriguing never the less.
I have one bought from him.Worth a Dekho if they still have it in stock.
BTW, they are the official agents for Cold Steel products in Mumbai.

Just a note: The most probable theory about origin of the Balisong states that it dates back to the 800's (AD) as a Filipino martial arts weapon and the most interesting part is that Benchmade (the huge US knife maker) has got rights on the name as they have registered and use the name "Bali-Song" for their balisong knives .

there is one old video tape Mastering Balisong knife, made by Janich, he made new version in 2007 also, he shows how to open balisong for different grips and how to open it in real live confrontation. must see if you are interested in learning how to use that knife.
