A truly Rajput dagger.....The Katar.
Presented by Katana to yours truly .
It was a pleasure to meet Katana (though for a short while) while he was here for the founders day of his Alma mater The Doon School.
Thanks Katana for the beautiful gift.

ha ha ha.
We are good friends hamiclar01
Katana is quite an expert on knives, daggers , swords and edged tools.
He loves the outdoors. Drove half the breath of the country in his SUV, all the way from Ahmedabad to Dehradun; to attend this function.

Congratulations Prashant and this is to Friendship
The Katar as we note here is well known for its horizontal grip which makes it more of an extension of the hand and makes thrusting (and slashing) easy. There are also examples of Katars where you have more than one blade (two or three blades) and a certain style where the blade looks like one but upon squeezing the two bars, where you hold it, the blade would open up like a scissor to cause more damage.
What we see here is a genuine old and restored Katar (with a new sheath).
Now you own a piece of history!

This particular katar was spotted by me, in fact a pair, all rusted and without a 'myaan' or scabbard in Udaipur with a swordsmith who enjoys my custom. I had just been to Dehra Dun and had enjoyed Prashant's hospitality and was grateful to him for making some arrangements for me. I immediately thought of having it restored and presented it to him. The swordsmith got to work and this is the end result. Unfortunately, due to excessive pitting the 'sakela' or the damask was lost, therefore loosing a bit of its value but nevertheless I went ahead with it. In fact, the pitting also brings out its age, which I conservatively assume to be anywhere from 150 to 300 years. The 'myaan' or scabbard is new altough the velvet should be about 60-80 years old.
In Rajput custom the presentation of a katar or sword, binds two people in friendship. It is sign of trust and goodwill.

The blade reflects its past glory, which lay beneath decades of rust.
With a touch of skilled hands, it has surfaced again.
Congratulations on owning a part of history & a piece of art.

Have had another katar somewhat restored for a member here. This one is cast iron, is heavy and most unlike a faulad and sakela piece. Of course, he will have to work on it yet, smoothen out the edges and remove minute traces of rust.
Note the first photograph showing a bulge at the tip. The caster even got this bulge correct! This is the first example of it's kind that I have seen.
