Indians For Guns

Hi Guys

I am going to Fly from Delhi to Mumbai tommorow, but this time i am thinking of taking my toollogic 3.5"(Blade lenght) pocket knife in my checked in baggage, i have never done it before so just asking if it can cause any trouble during the security clearence at the airport. Pls Advice.

No issues with carrying pocket knives inside checked-in baggage.
I have carried them on several occasions to and fro.

Airports: Delhi, Bangalore,Hyderabad,Kolkata and Guwahati.

Even if it is a 10" blade I would not advise carrying it anywhere where you or the luggage was likely to be checked as the exempted limit is only 9". Maybe you mean a 10" knife including the handle.

You need not even declare a knife if you carry it in checked in baggage. Of course in case of a fire arm, one has to declare all the details of the Arm and the License. It works more so for the passenger as the Air Line would put a high priority tag on the baggage and inform the authority by Fax at the Airport one is dis embarking. They will confirm receipt of the security baggage, that's it. Do not carry more then 50 ctges of the fire arm being carried as it is disallowed by DGCA for the reasons unknown to many including yours truly .

ps: I carried a knife that had 10" blade that I had bought in London of all the places and no one cared at the customs either there or here. Lucky I guess.

lugging a 10 in blade in your baggage sounds pretty interesting. I'm rather surprised the Airport officials didnt cause too much hassel! I'd expect them to at least now, what with the security issues (and not to mention human as well as bureaucratic lapses in terror policing & enforcement)!!

Airport authorities/customs must see to it that no rules are flaunted within their jurisdiction. Logically speaking a knife whether with 3" blade or 13" do not matter as long as it's in checked in baggage and not accessible to the passenger. Different set of laws apply outside though.

The security chaps in Goa are a whole different bunch - if they even see a cigarette lighter in the checked in baggage they get all finicky about it and insist that it be removed or at least the stone be removed from the lighter(zippo).
