Well Gentlemen,

After seeing Mack The Knife's service no 1, I had shown the pic to a friend of mine and he said he has to have the khukri and he had ordered some from khukri palace some time in December and we thought to check them out this morning
and well..all said and done, khukris are a great tool, and especially how much they retain their edge..it was amazing..

The Khukris tested
Me, after a hard hit on the wood

Some other knives also included, a Bowie and a whitehunter

The khukri, the dotted panawal from Khukuri palace cuts really well

A Powerful blow from my friend can cut through almost a foot thick wood

Checking out the army machete

using the bowie

Well, after cutting a lot of wood for the fireplace, we found the the Khukris hold their edge as any other Solingen knife and well, for cutting wood, nothing can match a khukri, the machete comes real close though..

Regards
Ranjeet

Great pics Ranjeet I was a bit skeptical about the "Cutting through a foot thick wood" part untill i saw the photos.. But there is a difference between splitting logs along the grain and cutting it across the grain. Try cutting those logs into shorter logs ;-)

Thanks, Ranjeet.

You need to use the belly of the khuk more to gain the most of it's chopping power.

As Jonah said you need to do a cross-grain chop test to verify a knives chopping ability. Take a log of a certain dia and then start chopping into it - forming a V as you go along. Record the number of chops taken to cut through half or all of the log. Now move onto another knife and a log of similar dia. The logs should preferably be from the same trunk.

Safe chopping!

Asif,

A read through www.himalayan-imports.com is worth anyone's time. It will answer your questions and more.

An Ang Khola is basically a full tang khuk with riveted handle scales.

The Sirupati is a slimmed down khuk and primarily a fighting knife, now adopted by some martial artists.

Mack The Knife-WOW!
A bit undecided about the ang Khola (I like my chopping /chomping knives with a bit of a belly! )and the Brit special
15 " seems to be par for the course...any recommendations?

WOW???

It took me a few days to go through that site! Speed reading again, were you? ;)

The 15" British Army Service is what I use and I would recommend it for outdoor use.

The Chiruwa Ang Khola is said to tranfer more vibration/shock through the hand due to it's full tang.

It really boils down to what tasks you would like your khuk to perform. If one of the tasks is home defense, I wouldn't recommend a very long one as space can be limited indoors.

No, Inder. You could have picked one up in the U.S.. Put it on your shortlist for the next visit.

Are you still in the U.S.? Or are you typing from Frankfurt?
