Cold Steel Rajah ! The Pocket Machete !

Hey guys and Subal, hope you wont mind this post of mine in your great thread. But I just couldn't help myself.

Image
The cold steel Rajah I or II both are what the title suggests they are. Pocket Machete. An incredible folding blade weighing 13 oz with a kukri style blade, it is a killer !
Specifications:
Blade: 6"
Overall: 14"
Weight: 13 oz.
Thick: 4.8mm
Steel: Japanese AUS 8A Stainless

A bit on the expensive side, Rajah I costs about $180 and Rajah II $159. But I would think they are worth it. It's a heavy blade yes and yes it's quite big. But with a Kukri style design, the Rajah is made to do some damage.
Its handle frame and integral bolsters are CNC machined from a 7075 Aluminum billet to secure the black G-10 handle scales. It's a bit bigger than most average hands which gives you a blunt tool if you don't want to use the blade. The Ergonomics are pretty impressive, the blade can be used by both right handed and left handed people. And the curves makes sure it wont slip easily. If you want a folding knife that has some edge in self defense, I would say this is it !

Here's a durability test to seal the deal !

Have fun and let me know if you get one of these !

big folder, improved lock, but not the one very popular.

Personally if I need a big folder in this price range I will go for Zero Tolerance - 0301, or BlackHawk CQD MK-1

here is few more big folders

Extrema Ratio - RAO
Pohl Force - Alpha Two
Extrema Ratio - MPC
Benchmade - 610 Rukus
Spyderco - Military Digi Camo
Zero Tolerance - 0301

one of the best and less known tactical folder for EDC, opens while drawing from pocket.

Delta Wave Folder

Image
Based on feedback from International Special Operations Units, the Limited Edition Delta Wave folders from Wilson Tactical and our Italian collaborator, Fox Cutlery seamlessly blend together the finest available tactical knife components- precision machined G-10 handles, massive cobalt vanadium N690Co Bohler stainless steel blades and a hardened glass breaker/impact pommel with Ernest Emerson’s patented wave rapid opening device.

The heart of the Delta Wave is the razor sharp partially serrated spear point blade, (Rockwell-C-59/60) treated with a black DLC coating for the utmost in wear and corrosion resistance, while the liners, screws, clip and locking face are hardened to resist wear over time. An ambidextrous pocket clip and dual thumb studs are standard equipment.

Whether you are looking for the hardest use tactical folder available or a martially influenced collectible with serious cutting performance, the Delta Wave easily fits the bill.

now, that is a hard one ... folder

Blade Hardness: 60-62HRC
M390 super steel blade (60-62HRC)
Titanium and G10 handles with titanium tip-down carry clip

for that kind of folder usd 200 is very well justified price

The Emerson/Perrin LaGriffe

Post by Subal das » Mon Jun 07, 2010 5:16 am

here are several attributes that make this knife so dynamic and viable for Self-defense:
• Virtual Invisibility in Low Level Light [ONE]. The knife is black coated and just like any other subdued coating on a knife, any available light will not be reflected as easily as with a satin finish.
• Virtual Invisibility in Low Level Light [TWO]. The small size of the LaGriffe works with the subdued, non-reflective finish well. It is very hard to see this knife in hand in low levels of light and that is what you want if you have to fight for your life.
• Secure [ONE]. The knife is very secure in the hand, like a Push Dagger. It is hard to dislodge from the hand and any attempt to grab the knife [and some people will attempt this on the street] will only leave the person attempting that sort of disarm with a badly lacerated hand.
• Secure [TWO]. One of the things that makes the LaGriffe such a frightening cutter/slasher is the fact that the knife itself is locked into/onto your own skeletal system. Mr. Fred Perrin designed this well. When it is grasped firmly with the index finger through the large hole in the handle/grip, it is very much like having a Human Talon and this comes as no surprise as "LaGriffe" is French for "Claw." This is the closest a human will ever get to a natural claw.
• The Hook Blade. The slight curvature of the blade offers incredible cutting power. The fact that it can lock into the skeletal system with this little curved blade makes for a wicked neck knife.
• Ability to grab, etc. Again, much like the Push Dagger, you can still grab onto an attacker’s hair or clothing if you have to. Your index finger is through the largest hole in the knife. This means you can also have the knife in your hand if you think you might need it and carry a bag of groceries, etc., simultaneously.

Great information and a pleasure to read your posts Subal. The knifes that you have mentioned are truly part of a 'tactical knife user/collectors' dream list. I also love the Extrema Ratio's dive knife. It comes in a nifty case and looks so very cool. The closest I have to the Neil Roberts 'Warrior knife' would be the Buck NightHawk which is also a very nice knife at a good price point. I truly agree with you that a knife is only as good as the guy who is handling it. For us 'non trained' knife users I think the Gerber Back Up Guardian is a simple knife to handle with two edged blade as a last ditch option. Do correct me if I am wrong. I feel the Karambit and the Balisong knives need dedicated training to handle and use.

if you like the knife then it is good for you. but it is also extremely difficult to choose right knife, consider large varieties available.

this kind of small knives with claw like blades becoming very popular, I think there many reasons why.
does no matter how good your knife you are always in danger to lose it in fight, against small blade it is difficult to apply disarm technique. also important to consider the situations in which you may need knife, you against multiply opponents or against stronger opponent.

here claws are superior kind, best stealth and speed, ability to make deep long slashes, with less effort.

for example this Kabar TDI has 16 degree sharpened blade, it can slash effortlessly through almost anything. Great number of concealed carry options.

also buying knife of reputed company is a good choice always you cant go wrong with Kabar or TOPS knife

this two knives made by TOPS are great self defense tools

This Karambit was designed by Kelly Worden who is a highly regarded instructor for the 1st Special Forces Group and is excellent at hand to hand weapons. He has over 35 years martial arts experience and is the author of over 20 internationally acclaimed instructional videos. He has also been the author of numerous articles on reality based self-defense and weapons training including defensive tactics, combat knife and double knife. This karambit features a black, scorpion shaped, double edge blade, beautiful black linen micarta handles with a scorpion emblem (Please note: the handles look brown in some of the pictures, but the true color is BLACK). It also comes equipped with a hefty kydex sheath with a multi position clip for versatility. To reposition the clip, unscrew the clip and remount it. The oversized finger hole, which is extremely ergonomic, allows for the use of gloves if desired. The karambit, when wielded, is nearly impossible to disarm. The finger ring can be used as an impact device or in conjunction with the blade delivering slashes and hooking blows which make this knife a formidable weapon and visual deterrent (It just looks mean!). This is an outstanding self-defense tool.

this knife for example was sold by Bob Loveless in 1957 for usd350 for grocery money

Image

It sold during during the Chicago Custom Knife Show, for $150,000 to a private collector, who turned it the next day to the current owner for the reported $250,000.

Your post above prompted me to check if it was worth its weight in gold hence the search in google for its weight.
Which led me to these links

and that leads to a $1.2 Million   knife "The Gem of the Orient" by Buster Warenski.

The no nonsense blade.
pounder.jpg
Source: http://www.graymanknives.com/pounders.html

The GRAYMAN POUNDERS were designed to be light enough for field carry, strong enough for hard use. The edge is straight for easy sharpening on the go. The full tang has a lanyard hole and a flat butt that can take a pounding. The blades are double bevel, flat ground for max blade strength, made from tough 1095 High Carbon 1/4" thick steel. No frills, just time tested materials and solid design for no-nonsense deployment. The Ground Pounder is 1.5" x 11.5" overall, the blade is 6". The Mega Pounder is 2" wide with a 7.5" or 9" blade (13.5" and 15" long).

All his other blades are also regular use blades.

similar in function knife, similar quality, but cost much less, I like handle style of Kabar knife more.

KA-BAR BK-9
Knife is made in U.S.A.
KA-BAR / Becker "Combat Bowie Knife"

The Becker combat Bowie knife has a full size 9" straight edge blade constructed of 1095 Carbon steel with a flat grind providing a super sharp edge and is easily sharpened.
The HRC strength rating for this knife is 58-59

The thick .188" blade allows for prying, chopping, slicing, as well as many other field chores. The full tang blade provides continuous strength from end to end and extends partially past the handle to provide a glass shattering or hammering tool. A serrated thumb ramp is designed into the top of the blade to add to control when cutting with down pressure.

The handle which is constructed of Grivory, a (Swiss made glass reinforced nylon) designed for comfort as well as control during use and provides a lanyard hole.

This large Bowie knife comes with a black Nylon fabric sheath with front pouch and lashing ports.
