Hi Vikram,

There was a time, in the 90's, when I had something like 240 odd knives. Whilst some were gifted away, the majority were pinched when I shifted from Bombay to Bangalore. The one that was most dear to me was a Randall that my uncle in the U.S. gifted me. Today, there is a waiting period of a few years for one of these.

I have had a few khuks before but this one is a bit special. I know I paid way over the odds but the money was put to good use. Uncle Bill is no more but he was a gem of a man. http://www.himalayan-imports.com/

My pleasure, Mark. I will try and get it to you as soon as possible. Please PM me your address.

As for your knives, all I can is what a super job and forged blades at that! Knife making is something I have been blowing hot and cold about for some time now and I hope to get down to making one someday. There is probably nothing more satisfying than using one's own hand made tools. Excellent job!

Don't be embarassed about the diving knife. My Ruko Shark diving knife sees a lot of use and whilst the picture was taken a few months ago, this one has been with me since June/July 1985. Some cheapies like the Mora make excellent knives.

Thanks a ton for the invite, the programme is right up my street.

Mark";p="3776 wrote:Mack The Knife that is an extemely generous and touching gesture, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

In regards to details of the 2 knives, I made them myself.

The knife on the left is forged from 420 stainless and the handle is European Reindeer. The bolster and pommel are Ebony. The one on the right was forged from a high chromium coil spring from a car suspension. The bolster is pewter and the handle is whitetail deer.

I'm embarrased to say, but my daughters knife is a pink cheapie dive knife I bought off ebay! I had been looking for ages for a pink knife and found them there, it was something like $8 plus $6 shipping. However it is her hunting knife now and she uses it quite a bit whenever there is some sort of hunting related work to do!

I still have my blacksmith shop and have a bit of metal working equipment, I think an appropriate way of repaying your kindness is to invite you here for a few days sometime that would be convenient to you and we can shoot some guns, hunt some animals, and forge some blades!

I've been trying to get Mack The Knife to visit the US for a long time now, but he doesn;t seem to want to visit friends for some reason that only he knows. :( I do hope that your invitation tempts him into coming over. Wonder if there is any other incentive that we could dangle before him? :)

Mehul,

See an earlier thread about my recent holiday with three Americans. I am looking at the possibility of coming over later next year. When would be a good time?

Mark,

I have never seen a ski boat, leave alone piloted one competently, but don't tell them that.

Asif,

Good for you to decide to make a thought into reality! When it comes time to build it let me know if I can be of assistance in any way. And as with Mack The Knife, my offer of a knife-building holiday goes for you too.

Mack The Knife,

PM on the way. Sorry to hear about your knife collection getting pilfered, that would be a major disappointment!

Guys,
My uncle a grand and wise old man had once said, knives somehow spurt legs in the forest or camp and unknowingly run off into the depths of the jungle or jump into the backpacks of well meaning friends. Its the knife thats to blame. If it likes a new person, it just rushes to that chap from its old owner. :)

These words have kept my knife collection safe for quite a few yrs as I always remember this when I travel and never carry expensive blades.

Nice collection indeed, Mack The Knife.
I am seeing many of these for the first time, it does seem I have a lot to learn about blades.

Kshatriya,

There are a few in there that I have a soft corner for but the majority is very ordinary stuff.

If you really want to see some good stuff go to the Knives section at Accurate Reloading and see posts by a member called Andre. Not only does he have a very good collection but his photography is quite simply superb.

Some knives that i have, nothing compared to Rusty collection, my 'set' of three knives

A khukuri bought in Lal bazaar in gangtok in 2001, put a lot of grease o keep it from rusting, didn't want to really clean it for a pic, so just wiped it with a cloth.
And have another very small 6 inch khukuri as well

Regards

Mack The Knife,
great collection of blades. Where on earth did you manage to source those beautiful FS from? More info on them please when you have the time.

As for Kukri, I would have thought they were plenty available in India :? IIRC, Atlanta Cutlery imports all of their stuff from India.

Mack The Knife,
the link about khukris was simply amazing.can you suggest any epoxy resin that i can buy at an hardware store for my knife? i know this is asking for too much..but can i find himalayan resin or an equivalent(made from tree sap) in bangalore?

Hi Krish,

Both the FS knives were bought from an army surplus store on the Strand, London. It shut down quite some years back.

Khuks are easily available in India but the quality is usually not upto scratch.

Hi Pran,

Try the Pidilite (India) website. They could either send it direct or recommend a dealer.

Yakyetiyak (Terry) is from Nepal. Ask him if he can send you some of that resin used for khukuri handles.

Glad you liked the HI link.
