These seems to be pretty old sword. The First think you should do is to remove the rust from these swords using some sand paper. Then you should lubricate the whole sword using some lubricant or oil. Finally sharpen these swords using sharpening stones. I want to say that sharpening stones won't sharpen them to perfection.

I registered to the forum simply to advise against the use of sandpaper! Don't use it! The sand grains are too hard.

What you need is very fine brass or bronze wool. Use the wool to gradually rub off layer after layer of rust. Make sure that you do this by hand and don't heat the metal up too much. Be patient - restoring a sword has to be a labour of love.

Once the last layer of rust is removed you can oil the sword (using vegetable or motor oil), then apply a layer of wax, and keep it in a dry location. This will preserve the sword.

A sword that old will never have the shine of a new sword - but if you remove all of the active rust it will last for centuries.

Good advice and welcome to the forums Avimimus!

To add to the point made by Avinimus, I think you can use a brass brush, typically used to clean gas stoves. Any gas wallah shop or hardware shop will have it. They will have steel brushes also, but I wouldn't suggest using those.

You need to be very gentle with the scrubbing. Don't use it like a toothbrush, imagine you are bathing a tiny newborn baby. The second stage can be a new toothbrush. Again, remember that little baby!

It will probably take you months, depending on the spare time you have, but should be worth it.
Cheers!
