Kshatriya, assisted openers are not the same as automatic knives or switchblades. In countries with well defined knife laws this makes a difference but I guess in India these will fall under the same category due to lack of knowledge and a comprehensive database in our legal system.

An automatic knife or a switchblade is one where the blade of the knife just snaps open upon pressing a switch whereas an assisted opener is one where you have torsion bars aligned in such a way in a groove or channel so that when you open the knife blade partially, in the usual manner, with the thumb stud the torsion bar pushes the blade open quickly and it locks into place. For example, after you open the blade manually up to a 30-40 degree angle the assisted opening system kicks in and snaps the blade open all the way. Hence the name "assisted opening" as the torsion bars simply assist the blades opening when you begin the process.

ZT makes some of the best knives and their assisted opening folders are quite good. If you are planning to get one then go ahead!

Well, that's great.
Be careful, with the use of 'Urban Pal", as it can be construed as a "Push dagger" under the Arms Act & that's one of the restricted items.

Hay Good news got the Urban pal yesterday evening, but ebayus was bad idea for comtech stinger ... the order showed no progress on the usps traking and was cancelled today morning ... i guess i should spend a little extra and get it from 20north.com... i was pleased with my transaction for the urban pal ..took 16 days but i was prepared for a little more...

Kshatriya wrote:Rajat, the 0100 sure is a charmer, I am myself on the lookout for a 03xx series folder, but the ones that I like have assisted opening. Is the ZT proprietary Speedsafe assisted opening same as an automatic opening knife, the kind that prohibited by The Arms Act?
Would appreciate any pointers regarding this, as 0301 & 0302 with their tiger stripes look too good to ignore :)
