Hi Members,
I have a few knives which i bought off a collector. I am thinking of bringing it to India. is it legally allowed to bring knives in checked in luggage?? kindly advice me as to what i should do. last thing i want is customs guys confiscating it. so please help me out.
i can post some pics with the measurements.

I do not see any problem getting them in checked in baggage unless some of them happen to be frighteningly long or wicked looking. Just pray that the custom officer you encounter does not turn out to be a collector of quality knives as well. Do carry a jazzy looking cheapo for him just in case..

You should be okay, but keep these in mind:
(a) don't mention these are "collectibles", as you may be subject to duty
(b) always refer to knives as "cutting tools", or merely "tools". There is a very thin line between a knife as a cutting tool, and a knife as a weapon.
(c) if you have invoices/receipts for the knives, keep them ready in case you have to show them to the customs officer.
I recently got 3 folders in checked luggage, and it just came through fine. One folder had relatively large blade ~4".
