My father, always horrified by all kind of weapons (from kitchen knives to howitzers) told me that in his infancy (about 100 years ago) he saw, and was rather impressed, in a large country house in Bengal a set of shields in rhino hide and of "cutting dishes", i.e. metal disks to be thrown to enemies.
No way to deepen the matter.
Can anybody tell me more about those weapons?
All the best to IFG folk.

The metal disc which you are talking about is Chakra or Chakram. a circular disc with sharp cutting edges. Till date shikh Nihang warriors use to practice this disc throwing and also demonstrate in some ceremonial shows.
The Rhino hide shield is called Dhal, Processed Rhino hide is a proved strong and light weight material as a shield.
