Accusharp - Knife & Tool Sharpener

Post by estousandy » Tue Nov 18, 2014 6:59 pm

Finally received the Accusharp in mail today from Collectors Heritage(Noida). This is the thing.

Pretty lightweight, & it did put a nice edge to all my blades. I'm glad at last i could give them justice as all were painfully blunt till i tried this tool. The tungsten-carbide bits really grind away metal as felt when swiping. It works.

Not bad at all for 20$, & all it took was 10 swipes per blade in average. Even my axe came out so sharp eventhough it's not supposed to be. It works on serrated edges too.

I'm not sure about the angles, & it's too difficult with a P&S cam to focus on the fine edge but the tool is designed as an all-rounder. All the blades cut through paper & cloth with minimal effort so good enough.

Made in USA!

This is where the action takes place.

I don't have any experience with high end sharpening before so i've no idea what a lansky, stone or wicked edge type treatment looks like. But i guess this is the right tool one can throw into that backpack with confidence before running into the outdoors.

Thanks for sharing photos. I don't have good experience with these V shaped sharpeners as they have damaged a few blades - maybe I was doing it wrong. I prefer free hand these days. Keep us posted about your experience.

From what I have read nd the videos I watched on YouTube
It is evident that different kinds of blades have different sharpening or honing needs
Using a standard equipment for all blades may do more harm than good

Be careful especially with your pricier collection
I agree with choombak that using a sharpening stone will be a better option
Than to regret spoiling ur precious sharpies

Rahul, that might be pretty true for the pricier blades but then again, i don't have any nor do i plan for any. I do not want to sweat it out with stones either.

The current status is whatever blades i have which couldn't cut through butter till yesterday can now make clean slices on paper. Good enough for me. Even finer edges which one may get with free-hand or big tools isn't in my interest.

Hello,

As a knife collector I really feel bad when my knives gets bald. I have recently got knife sharpener for sharpening knife edges and found that its very convenient to sharpen knives through it.
