What made you think the American Army uses "good" knives? From what I know, most tactical knives are for the mall-ninjas, and the American Army uses whatever they can to get the job done -- just like our Army.knifejunkie wrote:Hello, my dear friends of ifg the question I'm about to ask is very simple.

I have had the pleasure to visit an Army surplus shop in the US, and the stuff they sell isn't really cutting-edge -- most knives are no-named, I don't think the Army in general gets any named brand as a standard issue (except for a select few teams within the forces).

Choombak is correct.
Many soldiers bring their own knives.
Some units have custom made knives but I doubt we'll ever see any of those hit the open market. The quantities would be very limited anyway.
Custom knives might be something like the BRKT Bravo1 ordered by the Marine Corps Force Recon. I highly doubt those would hit the open market as surplus. You'd have better luck buying one from BRKT or their dealers by yourself.

Better to buy surplus clothing, boots, and stuff (check if they have bullet holes in them!). MREs if they are selling (and if you go trekking a lot). Backpacks, MOLLE gear. Canteens.
Lack of good knives might have something to do with cost cutting???
