Knife supplier in Mumbai

Post by Stab696 » Thu Dec 06, 2012 8:04 am

Hello all,

This may be my first post here but I have been a member for a while. I am currently looking for a wholesaler/manufacturer of knife making supplies in Mumbai. I am aware of and have previously successfully dealt with Damascus Steel Supply/Ancientarms but would like to find an alternative source to export this merchandise abroad. My only stipulation is that I am looking for functional India-made blades and the company must be based in or have a representative in Mumbai. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Hi Stab; Welcome to the Sharp Section of IFG. You should post an Introduction first in the intro section. Nonetheless, there are no such suppliers in Mumbai unfortunately. I am dead sure of this ( Unless some mumbaikar feels otherwise).

Keep posting and would love to see the pics of the blades you have procured from AncientArms.

Thank you for your reply. Are there any places within a driving distance from Mumbai (what about Pune?) that will supply knife blanks?

Hi Stab696, not that I know of. Choombaks not posting regularly these days, he's an avid knife enthusiasts from Pune and should be able to advise better.

None that I know of in Pune as well. Besides, I think most suppliers lack equipment to properly heat treat their blanks, resulting in poor quality. One workaround is to use files as blanks, these are already heat treated. JK makes quality files in various shapes and sizes and can be had from a reputable hardware shop.

i think one should individually sit down down & make a knife for himself ,, take your own time desigining it, scourge around for material , one can think out of the box for quality material , like used band saw blades ( saw mill blades) , they are high in carbon content , some day i will set up my own pretty neat knife studio

I have a better idea. Not sure if it is good one. One should design his own knife, source all materials (my preference is 440c steel , teak wood ,some leather for sheath) .Take them to a knife making workshop & get the job done. For addresses of the workshops ask local butchers.
