Hi Kartik,

Apart form the customs duty components that you have mentioned in your FedEx invoice, the invoice I got had "Other Charges" and "Service Tax"

It goes like:

BCD+CVD+CESS+EDU.CESS+SAD+OTHER = GRAND TOTAL DUTY [INR.748/-]
Other Charges [INR.300/-]
Service Tax [INR.37/-]

Total Amt. [INR.1085/-]

The customs duty alone comes to 25.86% of the accessed value [If I take the actual knife value, duty is 31.16%]. Adding the "Other Charges" and "Service tax", total amount I had to pay is around 45% of the knife value.

I'm not sure about what has gone wrong. Anyways, thanks so much for your inputs.

Regards,

Abhiram

Next step - wait. FedEx will inform you of the outcome. Hope customs releases your package.

Mostly the name of the knife was the reason it was detained. In the day and age of insecurity everywhere, a knife having this name will be viewed unfavourably by anyone.

Please keep us posted of the outcome, good luck.

It appears that my talks with FedEx were fruitful. Today I received a cheque for amount INR.337/- from FedEx. They have waived off the "Other Charges" and Service Tax.
