Buying Knives & other "Sharp n Shiny Objects" in Japan

Post by Moin. » Thu Aug 04, 2011 2:28 pm

Dear Friends and fellow cutlery lovers;

A good friend and colleague is travelling to Tokyo for some training. Any recommendations in buying Sharp n Shiny objects ? I've done some Google search but most blades I've seen are insanley expensive. Any recommendations, leads or information appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Regards
Moin. :D

that is just not so good place to buy knives at all. In Japan you can get facial massage for usd 300, car for 200, and good kitchen knife for 400. In country were knives cost more then cars, better buy cars.

Hi Subal; Guessed so, I did check out some prices on the internet and they semed mind boggling when you do the currency coversion.....I was hoping for a decent tanto/Japanese type knife.. But seems insanely exensive, atleast the ones advertised on the internet.

Moin,

Really like the second link. I had no clue such a school existed. Great news.

Moin,

The person running the samurai school is a member here too. He had asked me to have some Iaitos made for him but unfortunately my guys could not deliver the required quality so I side stepped the issue with them. You see, they are so used to making the normal stuff that its difficult to make them learn something new. Anyway am still working on it.

Adi, How I wish my pockets were deep enough to be able to spend. A few lakhs in buying the real deal :). If wishes were horses. Nonetheless, thanks very much for the links.
