Khukri wala is basically from Dehradun and Prashat Singh will be the best person to tell you about them. Cause he also belongs to the same place and a hunting buff. :D

grewal .
You won't believe it. But I have never heard of this company before. Went through their web page. It looks quite decent.
Khukri making has always been quite a Cottage Industry in Dehradun. Pobably because there were three Gurkha Training Centres here for a long time. These were finally shifted.

The most famous amongst them is "Windlass Steelcrafts". The company which has made swords and armour for Hollywood movies like "Gladiator" and "Lord of the Rings". Needless to say they are also the most expensive.

Peter,

I had some made according to my specs because I was not too happy with what I was getting in the market. In fact, I offered them to members here too. Unlike the market variety this one has a full tang and wooden handle. There is a slight change in the scabbard design too. The khukhri is easier to remove from the scabbard and requires less 'cocking' of one's elbow.
These were made in Udaipur. I have one more on order, one with a damascus blade that I should have with me around the 3rd week of this month.

Kukriwala also has a shop in Paltan Bazaar, Dehradun near the turn off on the road with trekking equipment shops next to the poultry traders. I bought a 12" (blade length) kukri from them a month ago which they said is also supplied to the Indian Army. Overall build quality seems to be sturdy. However price was only Rs. 350/- only so I really do not know. Also I did not have it sharpened since I was there on a visit and did not want to carry a weapon around , so that is pending. I am a novice regarding knife steel quality so if somebody knowledgeable in that area can take a look at their shop it would be nice. They also had some very neat looking period swords and daggers, which were again unsharpened so I really do not know about steel quality, but they were definitely good show-pieces.
