Just play it in a regular DVD player on your TV and it will work.

Congratulations on the purchase!

Could it be that it's encoded for US - Region 1 an dyour PC OS is set for say India (Region 6 I think). Typically WinXP shall give you 4 chances to change the Region Code. After those many chances it's either re-installation of S/W (if special for DVD) or reformatting and reinstallation of OS. I faced that problem a few years back - viewed an Indian DVD first and so had the setting changed to India - then got an US DVD; so the setting changed and then when I realized that I had only 2 more chances for change I changed back to India and left it at that. India Region (First Installation) - US Region - India Region (again) = 3/4 changes gone.

Received the'Lansky Universal Sharpening Kit' and the Smith's Pocket Sharpener today. (Thank You Bruno).

Initial Impressions: The build quality of the kit is acceptable and you get what you pay for. This came at a fraction of the price of an Edge Pro or Wicked Edge. The guide rods are not 100% straight and theforefore getting a perfectly even bevel might be an issue.Kit comes in with coarse, medium and fine hones and honing oil.

Tried it first on a cheap Chinese folder, and then went on to a nieto (440C Blade) who's edge I had ruined on a carborundum stone.

Got a very nice uniform bevel after the three grits and polished the edge by wrapping a 1000 grit polish paper on the hone. The knife's now hair popping sharp, tried it on my very hairy legs :).

Problem with the 17 degree angle setting is you end up grinding the clamp as well specially if the blade's not wide enough, but I guess was the first time I tried the kit and should get better with practice.
Will try the 20 degree setting over the week end to see, if it works better. Will also try and see how it works on larger blades.

The Smith's Pocket Pal's a nice little gem, good to keep for a quick fix. A few strokes in the carbide and the ceramic slots, the blade's not shaving sharp like on the Lansky's, but very very decent, good for a quick touch up on EDC's. Needs a bit of stropping though to get rid of the burr.

Technologically challenged, but will try posting the pics soon.

Best Regards

Hi Moin, Thank you for the informative feedback. The Smiths is a very popular little fellow. Great to carry in your pocket too.
There is a very informative video on the Lansky site. I recommend everyone to view this video. Sometimes it's the little things we miss out. Specially regarding the rod and hone being absolutely flat and in line. Maybe thats why the hone is eating into the clamp. They also mention briefly which angle suits which kind of blade but I guess with a little bit of practice you will be a pro :D

Happy Sharpening.

Will do Bruno. i did see some videos on youtube, but I guess was too excited last night coming hme after a hard days work and then tried it out. :)

What's a good locally available subtitute for honing oil. Doubt the little bottle will last long. Tried googling it, but did'nt find anything useful.

Thanks
Moin.

As far as the video shows the oil is used to clean the honing stone and remove the fine metal particles. I hope some seniors can shed some light on this matter. I am sure it would have a local substitute. I will also do some research and revert too.
