Poor Hippos!

Post by shooter » Fri May 28, 2010 10:04 pm

Heres an article in 2003 which talks about 27000 hippos being wiped out by poachers. This was (95%) of the population.
This article urges th authorities to do something lest they get wiped out.

The second article article is from 2006 stating the same population has reduced by another one third. and still urging the authorities to do something.

I wonder how many are still left in 2010.

I continue with these pessimistic stories despite them being sad. Hope it brings a bit of awareness amongst our users.

You are not going to like what I am about to quote, but still here goes. This is said by Agent Smith in Matrix:

Source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/quotes

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.

2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Well said m24.
I agree on principle. Matrix. This is one of the things that made some sense to me. Im not sure about the replicating agents being the cure though.

Bhai, it makes me sad when i encounter such news. I mean hippos. come on.

I also don't agree on machines being the cure. Just put it there to complete the script.

W.r.t the problem, as we are the cause, so are we the solution. It's just that we humans are dumb not to see it.
