Looks like an Virginia Opossum. Didn't think there were any in India though.

I agree -- it looks like a possum to me. I didn't know that these were in India, either! These creatures are marsupials (carry young in a pouch, like kangaroos), but they have a hairless tail like rats.
I have never seen a rat of this size personally, however, I've talked to a number of folks that have. One of them is my Brother. He said that in the steel mills, the slag pits were infested with large rats. The rats were as large as cats and cats couldn't survive in the mills -- the rats would kill them. He further said that, when laborers were sent down to shovel slag from the pits, half of the force was dedicated to warding off rats with their shovels, while the other half mucked the slag.

Dr. Jaykumar,
Let me make it very clear. I did'nt shoot it.
The pic is from another forum.
I have posted the link to the forum as well below the pink.
I literally stumbled upon the pic while looking for info on HW rifles. I though it was a rat and was amazed by its size hence decided to share it.

Now now, Alan, don't be coming in here with any of your chupacabra stories!
You ain't gonna pull the wool over this old Nuevo Mexicano's eyes that easily, so don't start up with stories about La Llorona, either!

(Or the old man in the mountains -- I know all about Hermit's Peak, as well!)
