Post by sudesh » Tue Jul 14, 2009 2:53 pm

Hi folks,
I am planing to buy a watch, which would be a useful gear for a hiking/ treking adventure.
After going through many watch company webpages, I have come to a conclusion to buy a
Casio Protrek PRG-130T-7V. 8)
http://www.casio-intl.com/wat/protrek/t ... g-130.html

Any suggestions from you people?

i have been using the protrek series for the past 8 years or so.....my current model is the PRG 40 .....I have used this watch in all kinds of conditions: white water rafting, snorkeling, hiking and climbing.
It has been a life saver on a couple of occasions. I used my watch, a map and a torch to search for water at 11pm in Grand canyon park for a group of 6.... :-)

I think the latest one in the market is the PRG 1500....i did not like the metal straps though.....

If u donot mind spending about $500....do consider the Suunto X10...it has all the features of the triple sensor and a GPS built into it.....it has received mixed reviews so far....

Parag

hi Sudesh,

A cheaper option, use the ironman triathalon, 200 m water resist with a wrap around strap, believe me can be used in almost all " exciting" conditions. Tough blighter!!! replace every three yrs!!!just my opinion though :D

cheers

Thanks Parag.
I visited the sunto website. therez only one dealer in UAE.
I ll check with him.
The reason i want to buy prg 130t is coz of its titanium wrist belt.
prg 1500 still not available in UAE.

Thanks,

Sudesh.....

Wouldn't a cheap GPS be a better option? IMHO a watch that tells time is good enough. A compass and a local map should be part of your kit if you're going away from civilization. And if going really far out, a GPS. A watch doesn't cut it.

Have had a Pro Trek for 5 years, my fishing and hunting watch. One tough watch. I use it when I am in a diffrent country, use analog for local and digital for home time. I would buy another one.
