It was a cloud filled cold morning when Mack The Knife picked me up at 0530 hrs. Previous calls to the guards at WASI had given us a forecast of muddy waters and intermittent rains, leaving us (actually) with less hopes of a good day of fishing.
Enroute, apart from our routine stop to Mylari for breakfast, we also stopped at Macs for a cup of coffee and disposal of Solid metabolic waste. We had planned to head straight to Headworks and try our luck with Mahseer. We called one of the guards to meet us there at 0845 hrs, and quickly started to cast off as soon as we reached. After several casts with literally no bites (on either side of the dam), we decided to head back to Forbes and make the day better.
At Forbes, when we set off in the coracle, the sky was still cloudy. the water muddy with very low visibility. After doing some bit of spinners, we shifted to frogs near the weeds, and lo, Mack The Knife caught the first catch of the day. A good sized, fair and smart looking Murrel -
Abhijeet (Matched with order of appearance on IFG}
Mack The Knife clicking away at Abhijeet...
This was also Mack The Knife's century-catch of Murrels - Congrats Mack The Knife
Fate had decided that our catches to match IFG on its anniversary. Had we more mods, our catches would have been plenty.. but hey, lets not sacrifice the masses for our fishing
Not much later, Mack The Knife struck again. This time it was
Mack The Knife Himself... Although I expected this one to be fat and stomping around throwing its weight, it seemed otherwise - but he did manage to fall in the coracle and made some noise about nothing
The days fishing was starting to look good. But I had myself yet to open account, and after some tips from Mack The Knife, started off with renewed energy. But I did not get mine before Mack The Knife bagged
Ngrewal
We were in a pretty good spot with appearances of Murrels here and there. Although the water was dark, we could see the fishes making their small ripples. I then made my first mark with
Mark. This guy was taken back home
Soon afterwards, Mack The Knife came up with another Murrel -
Eljefe. The guy did have signs of being Aussie-bound...
By now, the sky had pretty much cleared with nice warmth felt on the nose, considering I had covered most other parts of my face, Despite several snags, which kept delaying the day, I went on to catch my second -
Dev
And the next immediate cast brought in
Vikram
I tried to get one in the next cast - if I had, this would have been a hatrick to commend Mack The Knife's century... but as the IFG rank has it, we have only 7 mods and I could not catch the eighth
Some more spinning and we headed shore-wards for a quick bite. Since I was restricted in eating non-onion and non-garlic veggie stuff, I made my tasty sandwiches with enriched vegan stuffing and devoured them with pleasure as another huge hungry body looked on with hysterical anti-vegan thoughts. He never got close to the yummy delight and despite several minutes of pleading, he refused to taste a morsel of what may have been his best sandwich to date
We quickly headed back in water for more Murrel hunting, but the changing climate made the after-lunch session fish-less. Soon, as the sky grew dark, we shifted to Ragi and tried our luck at Mahseer. Although there were several nibblings, only Mack The Knife managed to catch one...
Soon after, we packed and left homewards with another stop at Mylari for Mack The Knife to break his fast with Bonda-Soup. Guess I should have clicked a snap of him devouring the dish in record-time
