Indians For Guns

Howdy All, I cannot express how pleased I was to chance upon my fellow hunting enthusiasts ! Living in NZ obviously has its advantages as the country is extremely hunting friendly and we have a variety of wild game available to us on both private hunting land as well as crown land (government land) administered by the Dept of conservation. The species available regularly to us are Sika deer - cunning beast and a real challenge to bag due to their extremely flighty and suspicious nature. Red deer, Rusa deer, Sambar deer, Fallow deer, Himalayan Thar, Chamois, Wild goat, Wild boar, Wild cattle. Additionally we also have a variety of varmint or small game opportunities with rabbit, Possums, Wallabies and also feral cats, stoats etc available. Additionally Bird hunting season allows generous bag limits on Ducks, geese, phesants etc. Turkey is considered a pest and not regulated under the bird hunting season so its open slather really.
I am just back from a wild boar hunting trip and bagged a 70 Lb good eating pig and 5 wild goats. Am posting the pics. Once again really glad to chance upon this site. I hope to make some good mates !

Gidday TenX - Yup that hunting hut is over a 100 years old and is what is called a settlers hut. Great place to hole in for a overnight hunt. I have a Savage accutrigger 7mm08 that I used for the boar with federal 150 grain bullets. I also have a Howa 1500 .223 that i use for goats and long range varminting along with that I have a savage accutriggered .22LR and a Hatsan shotgun thats Under Over.
The 7mm08 is my favourite as an efficient humane caliber. All my kills so far have been 1 shot ones with it so its my trusty workhorse !

Nice looking rifle and Boar.. and place is just awesome.. Please share some more pics of your hunt. How are the hunting laws for visitors..can one hunt turkey (As you say it can be hunted all year) while on a tourist visa?

Hey TenX - yup the accutrigger is a beauty to use - can be set quite light yet completely safe and will not go off by dropping etc. I actually considered the Weatherby vanguard series while buying but the accutrigger sealed the deal for savage.

Inder - yes you can hunt turkey on a tourist visa. In fact even people without a firearms licence can hunt with a firearm as long as they are accompanied by a licence holder. Turkeys are however not usually found in forrest land but more on pasture land. therefore you will find it easier to hunt them if you know a farmer or land owner. I shot 2 a few months back - I did underestimate their resilience though and must say that a .22 LR is highly under powered for them. next time its gonna be No 4 shells on the shottie or a minimum of a .22 mag in rifle.

So a 'Guest entry' is valid. Is there a cut off for the number of guests?

Yes a Tourist entry will allow you to partake in recreational hunting. No cut off on the number of guests but realistically speaking you aint gonna get any game if 4 guys are swaggering their way into a forrest making conversation ! I generally stick to groups of 2 when I go hunting - any more is a hindrance really. Here are a couple of pics of a Fallow deer we took a few months back. The guy on my right (not holding the gun ) is my buddy Raj who shot the deer with a 7mm08 - I was his spotter for the day.
