Dove Hunting Anyone????

Post by conty1 » Thu Aug 07, 2008 1:08 am

Back by popular demand!

I dunno if this can be termed as an official IFG hunt, but in the North US, that is prolly what we are going to call it. Hope you're okay with that Abhijeet :)

So this year's hunt is a Dove Hunt in Lincoln, IL. Sharief, this is the same place we went for Quail and Pheasant last year. I have just made a reservation for my dad and myself. Since we were there last year, the owner got us signed in... otherwise the opening day is reserved for members only.

Anybody who can make it there is welcome. It's labor day weekend!! I have hunted there before and they are very welcoming people. Plus at $50 per gun, this is as inexpensive a hunt as you will get! Bag limit is 15 birds... although I doubt we will get that. (Doves are VERY fast!! Trust me.. been there done that)

Any questions, feel free to ask ... or PM me. Let me know ASAP though, coz like I said, we are getting a privilage to get in on opening day.

Cheers,
Amit

Hey Amit ,

All the best and hope you enjoy the trigger time.
Also read about the most amazing dove hunts in Argentina where you can literally use thousands of shells a day as i think doves have been decalred a vermin there.

Keep us posted on how the hunt went.

Cheers Rohit.

Amit, when is opening day ? I can't go before November. Our second baby is due anyday next week and Ramzan starts soon after. My Dad is here visiting too and he will be in Canada for Eid and a few weeks after that. When he returns, I want to take him on a hunting trip. So, early November will be best for me.

I feel bad about missing this.

Some hits & misses from the dove hunt... a short clip.

I haven't had a more fun day 'shooting'. So what if we went through nearly a full case of shells :P And so what if the shoulder hurt like I was pumping iron all day. :P

First time ever, we got our bag limits... 30 doves total between dad and I.

Cheers,
Amit

From the clip it does look like you guys had lots of fun. One question: Did you hunt in open fields or did the guys of hunting range released the doves for you to hunt? What i mean is did you guys have to chase free doves to hunt or were they released after you got there ?

Mandeep

Mandeep,

These were wild doves. We were just 'renting' the landlord's property. He did however provide the bales for cover and many electronic dove 'decoys' to lure the birds over our heads.

Cheers,
Amit

Where do you live?

I have always enjoyed shooting/ hunting with other fellow IFGians. So far, each one of them have been a real gem. And you know who you are :)

Cheers,
Amit

The guy used these decoys:

http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/store ... erralID=NA

And they were 'very' effective. I mean sure we were hidden behind the bales, but still to have an almost constant supply of birds right where you are is probably not just coincidence. There were about 20 shooters spread out over a field the size of a football field but still everybody got enough to take home.

Cheers,
Amit

Amit, I missed a lot of fun huh ? Looked like a nice warm day and congrats on getting the whole bag limit. Maybe I'll join you next time or maybe we can set something for late October, early November.
