Fishing at Forbes

A hard week at work and the urge to fish for more than a month had me geared up for a fishing trip this weekend. Dinesh, my friend from college was eager to join me on the trip. The lack of a spare rod and his last moment decision to join me on the trip ensured his presence as a non-fishing guest.
Excited about fishing on the WASI stretch for the first time as a member had us set out at 5 am in the morning. We reached Forbes by 7.15 am and my plans to start fishing early were spoiled by the rains which had filled the big(an understatement) potholes on the road that led to Forbes. The left half of my car- a Maruti 800 was stuck in the slush and it refused to budge as a few litres of water in the pothole leaked into the car. The next 30-40 minutes had us struggling to push the car out of the pothole and parking it at the side of the road. Our designated ghillie arrived at 8 am and we set out on the coracle spinning for murrel. An hour and a half later I caught my first murrel on a spinner. The change in weather(I guess) and the frequent snags resulted in only 2-3 bites which did not materialise. At about quarter past twelve I caught what the ghillie claimed was a 1lb Mahseer that gave a decent fight but spat the spinner when it was very close to the coracle. The next 3 hours had me fruitlessly spinning for mahseer. I missed atleast two more murrels and hooked in a 2.5kg murrel at around 3.15pm before we left for lunch. I tried spinning for Mahseer from the bank for 20-30 minutes before the ghillie asked us to leave as the skies were cloudy and it looked like it would rain anytime soon.
