A days fishing...

...at the WASI stretch. Again!

Accompanying me were Gasramgandu and his cousin Dhanu. They are a regular Punch and Judy show so entertainment is guaranteed.

Picked up GG, then his cousin and we then proceeded to the lake via the Kanakapura Road. Avoid this road. One saves nothing in time and the stretch isn't too kind on the vehicle or your backside if you happen to be sitting in the back of a Gypsy.

Rather than start at the lake we decided to begin our day's fishing at the dam at GG's insistence and it turned out to be a pretty fruitful decision.

GG gave me a new lure to use and for the first time ever I caught a fish with my very first cast of the day.

After this I hooked into a second mahseer so things were really looking good.

Dhanu then joined me on the canal side of the dam and must have got a biggish strike because it straightend out the snap his spinner was attached to. However, luck did not desert him and he was into a 3 or 4 kg mahseer soon after.

Dhanu then bagged another on the Cauvery side of the dam and this one decided to sulk and Dhanu just had to wait her out.

GG also caught a couple of mahseer but I do not have any pictures of these.

After a couple of hours at Headworks we left for Forbes Sagar. With breakfast done with, GG and Dhanu pushed off in the coracle to spin for murrel whilst I decided to ledger and spin for mahseer. Other than one mahseer on spinner and a suntan, I had nothing to show for my efforts. However, the fish were there as I had spotted a few mahseer near the edges whilst walking along the bund.

Dhanu's session was a little more rewarding as he managed to get three or four murral.

After lunch Dhanu and I did some spinning for murrel from the coracle and drew a blank. All we had were three bites but these were not converted into hook ups. There's only one other time (last October), when I have know the murrel to show such disinterest.

Around 4:30ish we anchored ourselves amongst some weeds and ledgered for rohu and mahseer. I managed to get a small Carnatic Carp and GG got a Wallaga Attu as the sun set but that was more or less it.

Whilst glidding down the lake to where the Gypsy was parked I was spinning about in the hopes of getting one last mahseer and somehow foul hooked this little fellow.

That's all for now. Next week I take a newcomer fishing and hopefully will convert him to the sport before dusk next Saturday.

Asif, it was a Rapala Floating Magnum but I have no idea about the hook size. Yes, that was at Headworks.

Are we still on for March?

Pran,

A Wallaga Attu is a specie of catfish and also known as the freshwater shark.

GG caught a small one and you can see the guard holding it in the second last pic.

Thanks Mack The Knife. I missed that pic earlier. What was the Wallagu Attu caught on? Are there bigger ones in the lake?

Rusty, nice post :-) I had a great time and i'm sure Dhanu did too.

Eljefe, the plug which Rusty used is a Rapala Floating Magnum 11cm in Firetiger.

Pran, the catfish was taken at dusk on a small rubber shad.

Cheers

GG,
Have you had decent strike rates with artificials on mahseer, down south?
Axx
PS- original trebles or retrofitted?
