I recently took some pictures of catches by local fishermen and couldnt identify this beauty :

It is a calabanse, the pimple like projections on it's lips indicate that this fish was caught during the spawning season or just after it.
This fish feeds on moss and algae growing on rocks much like a sucker fish which is why the mouth is bent downward.

Thanks GG, wasnt able to logon to your forum else would have definetly posted it there... too many jokers here. There was also another fish which had a kind of hardish hump infront of its dorsal fins I didnt take its picture though but it looked interesting.. I wonder what it was.. Dev, unfortunately I dont eat fish otherwise.. You bet!

The simple method for identifying a mahseer is to count the scales on the lateral line: 26 - 28 depending on age. All other carps will have 24 scales.
