Anybody interested in a Quail hunt?

Post by conty1 » Thu Sep 20, 2007 8:14 pm

So I've got a cabin booked at Big-Oak Hunting Preserve (http://www.big-oak.com) for the weekend of October 20-21. I have my dad as the other hunter with me. The ladies are going to spend time at the cabin or in town... Lincoln, IL. Planning to do some grilling/camp fire at night. The prices are pretty reasonable.

Let me know and I will add your name to the reservations!

Ciao,
Amit

YEE HAAW !!! yes Sir, I will be interested. Lets have some more details. I got some from the website. Here are my questions:

When do we have to get there, when do we hunt, how long, and when do we get outta dodge ? From what I can tell reading the website, we can get there around noon on Saturday, lunch, hunt the afternoon, dinner, sleep, breakfast, hunt the morning of Sunday, lunch, pack and head home.

Also, how much do you think it will cost total for me to hunt and the wife and daughter to hang out at the cabin and what's included.

How many more hunters can they have ?

Can we borrow/rent a shotty from them ? If rent, how much ?

What ammo can we use, do they need steel ?

Did you already ask Mehul Baba ?

Is Inder mad at us for having this after he left ;) ???

I knew you would be interested Sharief... this was sort of your idea ... at least the night over part :)

"From what I can tell reading the website, we can get there around noon on Saturday, lunch, hunt the afternoon, dinner, sleep, breakfast, hunt the morning of Sunday, lunch, pack and head home."
That is EXACTLY right!!

"Also, how much do you think it will cost total for me to hunt and the wife and daughter to hang out at the cabin and what's included."
Non hunting persons only pay 30 bucks for the night. They don't get meals. Hunters pay 200 all inclusive: birds, dog, guide, night stay and 4 meals.

"How many more hunters can they have ?"
They have room upto 20 people.

"Can we borrow/rent a shotty from them ? If rent, how much ?"
Not sure, I will call and ask later.

"What ammo can we use, do they need steel ?"
They didnt specify which means lead must be allowed.

"Did you already ask Mehul Baba ?"
Left him a message.

"Is Inder mad at us for having this after he left ;) ??"
I am sure he is :) Good... so he can come back before the hunting season is over :D:D

Done Sharief. The reservation is confirmed.

Oh and I also asked about the shotgun rentals. They do rent guns. :) There is a $25 donation. Not bad me thinks.

Inder... you going to be here before that you think?

Anybody else who can make it is more then welcome guys. Just drop me a PM.

Ciao,
Amit

You want more gun control? Use both hands!

Yes, in all private hunts the bag limit is equal to the size of your wallet ;)

Thing is, on the private/preserve/canned hunt, you can buy as many birds as you can afford and they will release those birds in their land. Then you go and get as many as you can, maybe even more as some maybe left over from previous hunts.

Mehul, haven't heard from you on this. Come on dude, chime in and lets go.

Sharief is right.

Although, with the package that we have purchased, we get 14 Quails per hunter. 7 on each half day hunt. Illinois bag limit is 8 Quailsper day and possession limit is 20. But again, since this is a private preserve, these numbers dont mean much.

BTW Amit, what birds did you order and how many ? Maybe we can have a mix of pheasant and Quail and Chukar. We already have three hunters so I'm sure we can do a good mix of birds. I hope Mehul joins us so we'll have more birds to shoot at, and miss ;)

Mehul, PUHLEASE join us, it'll be more fun than last time, Amit promises ;)

I have only ordered quail. I thought we already did Pheasant last time, and plus I am going to a public land for it early November. Chukar seems too costly. But anyway... we can make changes when we get there. They seem pretty flexible.

Yes, I am sure this will be more fun than last time :D
