A couple of days fishing with the kids.

Took my sons, Shubaair and Shane, to the WASI stretch for three days of fishing. Unfortunately, Shubaair fell ill so we had to cut it short by a day.

Herewith some pics...

Shane catches a carnatic carp within a minute of casting out.

Learning to release the same...

Shane then bags another...

Image

And another. This time it's a tilapia and it was kept back for dinner.

Image

Shubaair is thoroughly discouraged by now, especially since he was pulling Shane's leg about how he couldn't catch fish on the drive to the lake.

Image

So just to rub it in, Shane catches another.

Image

Image

Shubaair then hooks into something big and gives me the rod because it's too powerful for him. No, Grumpy, I did not snatch the rod from him.

Image

Shortly after I catch another rohu.

Image

The next day I take the boys spinning at the cottage lake as well as Forbes Sagar and they catch a couple of murral.

On the third day I wanted to use this fallen fruit to catch rohu but I had to stop as Shubaair wasn't feeling well.

Image

It was a lovely little trip and would have been better still had the elder fellow not fallen ill.

Hi Sanjay,

I gifted my weighing scale to a friend (he fishes far more than me) so have to be content with what the guard says and they are usually pretty good at estimating weight - approximately 11 and 4.5 kgs for the large and small rohu, respectively.

Before I forget, I have handed over the spool of line to Asif's brother and he will bring it over. There should be more than enough for you and Asif. Tight lines!

Before Asif raps me on the knuckles, the tackle used for the big rohu, tilapia and carnatic carps was:

Rod: Shimano Convergence, 6' long, 2-piece, 1/2 oz. max casting weight, medium action. Playing the big rohu with such a light rod (my friend refers to it as a noodle) was an absolute blast and many a time it literally bent the tip under the coracle.
I forgot to mention that I hooked into a third rohu soon after the second but I had a line break just as I brought it close to the bank. This was about the same size as the first. However, the tackle used was different.
Reel: Shimano CX 2500 rear drag.
Line: Berkley Trilene Big Game 10 lbs. mono.
Hook: Mustad Fresh Water No. 6

The second rohu and murral were caught using:
Rod: Shimano Beastmaster, 7' long, 2-piece, 1 oz casting weight, medium action.
Reel: Shimano Symetre 4000 rear drag.
Line: Berkley Trilene Big Game 12 lbs. mono.
Hook (for rohu): Mustad Fresh Water No. 6
Spinner (for murral): Mepps Agila No.4 (undressed)

May I know the bait used for the carp?
You got me there. It's those winged insects that collect around light bulbs. Will take a pic if I use them next time.

You can also catch Carnatic carp using moths, grass hoppers, dragon flies and such. Pretty sure cockroaches will also work fine.

Mack The Knife

P.S.: Who is Santosh and where do you fish? All the very best.

Yaj,
In effect Mack The Knife was flyfishing for carp.;)
Great outing there Bwana, was waiting for the pics -that is a very impressive carp.Only wish I was there to see the action...Glad to know Shubair has recovered and fighting fit.
That light combo must have been a hell of a fight, and I'm glad there's a reasonable amount of you and the carp in the pic, inspite of the Ghillie's best efforts to include the landscape! ;)
As I can see, the faithful Mepps no 4 is absolutely deadly on Marral
Water level seems to have gone down some more?
Some of the punters had smallish mahseers at approx the same spot as me/us, near the junction, casting from the road side slope.
Keep on doing it
Best
Axx

Great report Mack The Knife... congratulations on the catch.

Am glad Shubaair is feelin better too! Kids falling sick on an outing like that is a real bummer... personal experience speaking!

BTW... you ever use a 'boilie' to catch carp?
