Wut? Fish shooting? I guess there is no law against it, not sure though. Shooting a fish with lead, that's kinda irresponsible. If you can't make a clean kill in the water the fish might survive with lead in it or may die contaminating the water with toxic lead.
I strongly advise against it.

It is not illegal although in reservoirs and lakes which are leased by the Govt. for fishing they don't allow there orelse anywhere you can fish.

If fishing was made illegal, there would be riots in the street! Probably why the animal rights brigade has (so far) been unable to make any inroads here.

Depending on the state in question, even in places which have been contracted out, you may do "sport fishing" against a valid sport fishing license (for e.g. this is true of Haryana). License is issued on a per rod basis for varying time periods (minimum 1 day to max 1 year). The fee varies from state to state and the license is valid only in the state where it is issued. Sport fishing means 100% catch & release, i.e. you cannot take any fish back home.

Cheers!

i don't know about the law..

But is quite hard to shoot fish in water from airgun ...
Because the velocity of plete will be decreases...

Only , If the fish is upper water layer , you can shoot it.
& if you kill it , it goes under water , which is hard to find. . .

I tried it in our pond several time to reduse my curiosity , even killed one but i can't find it. .
After 2 days i found it, when it was unable to use.

Fishing is legal. But as Mundair said, catch and release.
There are many places to do fishing near Jim Corbett.

in my school days i remember there was a dam near Ratlam (M.P) named DHOLAWAD where lots of my freinds and their fathers use to go fishing together. Even if they are on patrol from their boats they never said anything to us.

seems like i was a law breaker in childhood but with no negative intentions....

Water drastically reduces the pellet/bullet velocity and also changes direction so its not wise to shoot a fish with a gun :)

I would say catch and release might be fun for sport fishers but not fun for the fish. When you catch the fish you injure it but if you are catching it to eat there is no issue but if you pull out the hook and put it back in water, it lives with those injuries. The injuries might heal might get bad and can make the fish sick.

just my 2 cents :)

Just remember if you only wound it, you have an obligation to go into the bush and finish it. Be careful. A wounded fish can charge, and it is hard to see them coming under water until they're on top of you.

Lead is usually only toxic to humans when it enters the bloodstream. A lead pellet, if swallowed, usually gets encapsulated and passed out.

A lead pellet in a river or stream by itself is not toxic but if it ingested by waterfowl, their gizzards will grind it up and they will be sickened, often dying in a few weeks. Raptors eating fish or birds with lead pellets in them can be sickened and die when they ingest the lead.

Shooting fish using a rifle/ air-rifle/ bow & arrow/ spear etc. may/ may not be permissible depending on where you are. For example I have attached a copy of a fishing (day) license issued in Himachal Pradesh, on the reverse side are the rules under which the license is issued and they specifically state that shooting fish is not allowed in Himachal Pradesh! Please check with your local fisheries deptt. for accurate information on the applicable rules/ conditions for your area.

Fish heal very quickly with no lasting effect of having been "hooked". IIRC a year or two back, there was an article in the news about an individual fish in UK which had been caught & released by anglers many thousands of times and lived to a ripe old age before finally dying (of natural causes). Of course there are do's & don'ts of handling fish which is to be released back (don't mess with their gills, be careful not to remove the protective slime, don't keep out of water for too long, etc.).

So in a way angling scores over hunting in that the same individual fish may provide good sport to many many sportsmen over the period of it's lifetime.

BTW, not all sport fishing has to be catch & release as the rules differ from area to area. Even when allowed to keep your catch (usually there will be minimum size stipulations), you may end up catching a lot more (legal size) fish than you can consume - hence (even when allowed to keep your catch) you may decide to release the balance back into the water...
